  Whittingham needs to hire someone like RichRod AND THEN let that guy clean house on the offensive side of the ball!!!
  
  I don’t want a single one of these offensive coaches to come back.
  
  IMO, this has been one of the problems with all of the OC turnover. Kyle hires a new OC but then only lets them bring in maybe one of their own guys and keeps the rest of the offensive staff in place out of some misguided sense of loyalty and “for continuity.” Why in the world would we want “continuity” when, by his own admission, the offense hasn’t been good enough?!?!
  
  Kyle, do everyone a huge favor and push the reset button on the offensive coaching staff.

        How many HC changes will there be this year?
        
        Utah State, Texas Tech, Temple, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Liberty, Louisville, Akron, Kansas State, Central Michigan, Colorado, Houston, West Virginia, Miami, East Carolina, North Carolina, Texas State
        
        And that is just so far this year.
        
        Now, I realize these are head coaching changes and there will certainly be some assistants from the previous staffs who are retained. But, by and large these new coaches will bring in entirely new staffs or almost entirely new staffs. So, how do all of these schools make it feasible and cost effective to replace so many assistant coaches but Utah can’t manage to do it on just one side of the football?

        No I want the scenario given. HC fires an entire Coordinator crew and brings in the new hires guys. HC hire with new staff isn’t the same thing. Not even close.

        You’re right. Hiring a new HC and entirely new staff is much less cost effective and yet . . .
        
        I would wager that most head coaches who have to replace their OC are doing so because their previous OC was successful and moved on to bigger and better things. In those cases, it makes sense to retain many of the assistants, especially if the new OC was promoted from within.
        
        However, in Utah’s case, other than when we replaced Chow, we have always been replacing our OC in an effort to improve a very lackluster offense. Keeping 4 or 5 of the people who were responsible for that lackluster offense is insanity.

        Why do you think it isn’t cost effective?
        
        Other than the coordinators, Utah’s assistant coaches are given one year contracts each year. There would be literally no cost in letting our offensive assistants go.

  The whole problem is Whitt himself. The O coordinator has to base his scheme in the head coaches overly conservative defensive philosophy. Time for a change at the top.

    First rule of hiring: Never hire someone you won’t be willing to fire if necessary.
    
    If Kyle isn’t willing to let an OC hire his own guys, then we will not have a great offense until Whittingham retires.
