Why I’m cautious about our quarterback transfer…

  I have no clue if this guy is good or not. Clearly he wasn’t the top quarterback at Texas. Yes, he was highly ranked out of high school, but Tuttle was ranked higher than him (and he was third string here). For all the Russell Wilsons and Gardner Minshews that excel after transferring, there are more Tommy Gradys and Cooper Batemans that barely sniff the playing field (you could even throw Troy Williams in there, although he had slightly more success, but I would not call him a huge difference maker).
  
  I hope I am wrong and that he comes in here and wins a Heisman.

  I see where you’re coming from, but on the positive, we aren’t as concerned as we were before about our QB depth as before. I’d rather have 2 options to have in my basket rather than just 1.

    Right, and depth is always an issue because it is rare that the starting QB on day one of the season plays all the games. The third guy is not the next man up, but not really that far, especially if he’s patient for a year or two.

  Rising, as a frosh, was basically behind Tim Tebow (Ehlinger, Soph) and the second string was an upperclassman. Rising can come to a great situation at Utah with a great defense, a solid run game, a huge O-line and can develop with a proven OC.

  You make a valid point. We all know the stories. And we need to wait and see before judging.
  
  In some ways, C. Rising was in the same situation as JT. He was behind a few more experienced QBs and not likely to break into the starting lineup for years. Only JT bailed near mid-season. Rising waited until the end of the season.
  
  The rating differences between Rising and Tuttle are not statistically significant. In effect, Utah traded Tuttle who bailed on the program for Rising who wanted back into the Pac-12, both 4* recruits of the same class.
  
  Now it is up to Andy Ludwig to develop his talent. Maybe Rising is just that, a super star in the making.
  
  I read somewhere a few days ago that optimism is good for your soul.

    Ludwig actually molding him is what we need to hope for. I do agree though Huntley probably won’t play the entire season. His frame is just not built for it.

    He was 3rd string behind the incumbant starter and a sophomore (who turned out to be pretty good). He beat out the other highly touted freshman qb, and he looked good in the spring game according to reports. There are a lot of Texas fans saying that they thought he was their future, and some rumblings that he was better than Sam Ehlinger. There are UT fans congratulating us for getting him. He could definitely turn out to be another dud, but there is plenty to be optimistic about right now. Besides, our QB depth was looking pretty dire…so even if he’s just okay, he adds depth to a position where we were set to have almost none in 2020.

      Ya, that’s gonna be a no from me dog. Texas fans were hoping Rising would be groomed for a few years and push the incoming Freshman coming in (Roschon Johnson) The plan for Cam at Texas was to learn from Ehlinger and start for 1 or 2 years as an upper classmen and provide leadership. The future is wagered on Johnson who has been compared to Vince Young down in these parts.
      
      It was however an absolutely good get for Utah. I’m a Utes fan and will watch them regardless, but I’ll def be following quite a bit closer in 2020.

  I liked Tuttle’s prospects and I like Rising’s. Both are waiting on waivers, and will, or have already starting working out with the new teams. See the story on Jack Tuttle from yesterday.
  
  Tuttle is say and doing all the right things.
  
  “We trust coach Allen, we trust coach Sheridan and the rest of the coaching staff that they’ll make the right choice,” Tuttle said. “We’re behind each other no matter what. Just being here for two weeks, I can already tell that. All the players are on board.”
  
  I wish Tuttle success, and Rising will find a good home in Utah. I note most of Texas fans are very supportive of Rising, even now that he has left the Longhorns.

    Tuttle is dead to me. I remember all the good things he said about the Utes before he got on campus.
