I believe I understand Rising’s “.. piss boiling..” comment. But I admit that now older, perhaps ancient, I had not heard that before.
tarheelute replied to the topic What is your most memorable play in Utah football history? in the forum Football 3 months ago
Beating BYU never far from my mind, sorry, but 40 unanswered points in the 2nd half, a fumble return of 57 yards for a TD, Utah wins 54–10.
Very satisfying. Covey’s punt return against Oregon hard to pick over. You had to be there.
tarheelute replied to the topic Who do we cheer for in remaining games? in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Not rooting for UCLA, but if Utah and UCLA win-out its the clearest path back to the Rose Bowl.
Otherwise, both UCLA and USC can lose every game, leaving Oregon and Utah to fight it out.

Run blocking, RB Strategy, Defensive line strategy.
Field position: Nothing to be done about the kicking game, it seems.

Ask again after this week. OSU and WSU will be tested against USC and Oregon.
Otherwise Utah can split Oregon and USC, but not lose another and expect to return to the P12 championship.
– Utah (8-1) does not play UW, WSU (Away), Oregon (Away), OSU (Home), USC (Home) goes 3-1, beating USC
– Oregon (9-0) does not play USC, WSU (Away), OSU…[Read more]
tarheelute replied to the topic Who would your team be if your options were all SEC and B1G teams? in the forum Football 4 months, 2 weeks ago
If moving to B12, or a P12 with San Diego and Fresno added, Utah my be comparable to to Penn State and Georgia, within these conferences. Every year and chance to win, with a chance to go to the future CFB playoff. Otherwise Arkansas and Minnesota, considering recruiting, instate fan support. Otherwise I root for Wisconsin.

This is my CFB (and Utah) bye week. I will be watching the lead fly into a trout’s mouth. After that every week a game through the middle of January.
I expect the Utes will iron out a few kinks, on Saturday. Many of them illustrated in other blogs; the Linebacker and Wide receivers will be the focus this weekend, before taking on the last OOC…[Read more]

Agree with the Popeye’s reference. Maybe one of his buddies, tagged him with a nickname.
“Jaylon was upset the other day man, got home, and blew a gasket, when he opened his Popeyes. Damn it! 2 piece, no biscuit'” Angry at the time, funny later.

I wish I was over TDS, but I watched/attended too many Utah-BYU games in the 70s and 80s. But at least I’m no longer in therapy.

tarheelute started the topic Transfer Portal Rules – Are there any? in the forum Football 1 year ago
Does the transfer portal have rules similar to recruiting, i.e. visits, contacts? Are teams allowed to contact a player prior to their transfer announcement, or can say a team like USC cherry-pick the best players that say Wyoming or Colorado have developed? I think even the NFL does not let their teams contact or negotiate with other teams…[Read more]

I will wear/use my Rose Bowl (Polo, Hat, couple running shirts, and a shot glass) with pride, happy with the 2021 championship, happy still with attending the Rose Bowl game. Money well spent all around. I have a Utah-Alabama Sugar Bowl hat that I have worn out, a Sun Bowl hat that hangs in my game room. But I don’t know where my Holiday Bowl…[Read more]
tarheelute replied to the topic This year vis a vis 2004 and 2008. in the forum Football 1 year ago
For us older fans, the progression provided key dates, when we new things had changed. The twin 34-31 wins cleared the template with defeating BYU and winning the MWC as bell-weathers. I was angry/disappointed with the firing of McBride, but it turned out to be clear message from the UofU AD that expectations had changed. Obviously, the 2004 and…[Read more]

My seat was not the greatest on Saturday, and I won’t get to watch the broadcast until ESPN repeats later this week.
So, what did OSU do than neutralized the Defensive Line and the line-backers, particularly Lloyd? If that is not a fair assessment, please advise.
What I saw was congestion in the middle of the lines, with most of the action…[Read more]
