2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is this the 2024 Utes? in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
2024 Utah isn’t even in the same conversation as 2024 Florida State when it comes to fan disappointment.

That’s what usually happens when you have a QB that moves like he’s carrying a piano on his back.

I like Cignetti, but don’t you think that going from Indiana (and the B1G) to Utah and the Big XII would be a step down or at least a lateral move? I know that Indiana has never been a football school but even with that, they seem to get recruits (i.e. Penix) that Utah wouldn’t have a chance to get.

Fano is struggling with losing contain. I think Barton got blamed for a couple of his because the numbers look so similar. That 12 yard run by Leavitt to the left side in the first half was all on Fano taking too direct an angle to the QB.

I’ve defended Whitt since the 5-7 years on the old Block U site. But I think his time has come or is rapidly approaching. Not a fan of Scalley taking over either, hopefully I’m proved wrong about that, but I’d prefer Harlan take a look at Brian Johnson, Jay Hill, or Cignetti from Indiana.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Not Utah Football in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
Utah is not in a good place when it appears that UNLV would put it to them.
Funny you should mention that, because I was thinking the same exact thing last night. There are a number of G5 teams that would absolutely feast on this version of Utah football. Boise State and Memphis are other teams that would make Utah look bad at the present.

Scalley’s D is missing two very important elements that he relies on almost to a fault. He doesn’t have an eraser at ILB in the mold of Lloyd, C. Barton, Bernard or Hansen (-on?). Reid is a step up from what we saw last night but he is not that caliber.
He also doesn’t have a safety who can play in the box or at the LOS. Ritchie looked like he…[Read more]

Weddle said yesterday, doesn’t do the gamesmanship. “We know what you have, you know what we have and the best team will win” Doesn’t get the hiding of injuries etc. Disagrees with Whitt’s strategy

For me, the biggest negative is that you had two weeks to prepare to face a mediocre ASU team and thought that you could win by having a U sticker on your helmet. I mean, WTF did they focus on those two weeks? ASU is Skatteboo and not much else and they were still able to roll the Utes. As I said last night after the game, Rising can’t play…[Read more]

You and I are good Sal, at least from my point of view, and always have been. The title of the thread gave me the opportunity to say something I’ve wanted to for a long time and I went after it with both barrels.
I’m a contrarian by nature and don’t have an ego when it comes to my opinions being challenged. You may not change my mind but I…[Read more]

No, I don’t. I’m just speculating. This is my best guess.

I’ve had basketball season tickets close to the floor for a few seasons and see Harlan all of the time at games schmoozing and working the “whales”. So, you might be right Eagle in that he’s a smooth talker and can work the financial/donation side of the athletic department. However, for me, he definitely failed his first task, which was to get…[Read more]

Quite possible, @Eagle. I shouldn’t put much stock into Twitter and Reddit takes, but it rubbed me the wrong way after a heartbreaking loss.
I agree that Utehub has been a great community, and I appreciate the diverse opinions. As @Holladay put it, we’re all on the same side. -

This is not a troll question, but do you know Whitt personally and associate with him? There’s got to be some people here that really know what’s going on in his mind. If I’m 65, in a high-stress/high-pressure job and I’ve already made more money than I’ll even be able to spend in my lifetime, I don’t spend more than a minute after the season is…[Read more]

Agree w/ this. I’d be excited to see what, if anything, Scalley would do differently than Whitt (mainly on offense, of course).

Harlan is supposedly a guy that gets booster donations. While I think he has done well with NLI transition. Basketball is completely held back by him. Smith was a horrible hire.

I have seen many people unsatisfied with Scalley. I am like who trust Harlan to make a hire? I think aiming for “Whitt Jr” is 100% the best decision until we find an AD.

Aside from his ridiculous response about why they didn’t bench Cam, I appreciated what Whittingham said after the loss. At least they know what the main problems are (red zone offense, poor tackling, etc.) and aren’t shying away from that. That’s a positive. The bigger negative is that we’ve known those were problems for weeks and they haven’t…[Read more]

Definitely feels like the stranglehold JoePa had over Penn State.
How have Harlan’s other hires gone? I only follow Utah football and gymnastics and he did a terrible job by keeping Farden as long as he did.

He does not seem to have the fire in the belly he used to. I think he made the decision to retire after the season, and his mind is on his golf game and skiing.
