I know that not everyone will agree, but IMO the best news so far from camp is that 92% of the players are fully vaccinated. I don’t want to have quarantine issues or players missing games because of this virus.
What happens if a vaccinated player tests positive for Covid? Do they have to still quarantine for 2 weeks until they test negative again? Or does the fact that they’re vaccinated allow them to no longer have to be tested and sidelined for Covid?
That’s a good question. I can tell you at my workplace if you’re vaccinated you don’t have to get tested. If you’re not, you have to submit to weekly testing. If you’re vaccinated and come down with it, you still don’t need to get weekly testing once you come back. Not sure if that’s how the Utes or PAC 12 are doing things but my guess is that’s pretty standard as far as workplaces that require it.
Of the remaining that aren’t part of the 92%, he said there are a few that are vaccinated, not just fully vaccinated yet, they will be once the waiting period between shots is up. He did say there are a few who will not get vaccinated for personal reasons but that shouldn’t affect the rest of the team if the vaccinations work as advertised.
That’s good to hear. I hope that’s how they do it in the world of college athletics as well. If so, I’d think that would be a huge motivator for getting the vaccine. “Get vaccinated and you can play the season without worries of needing to be constantly tested and possibly sidelined.”
Washington State will be the one to watch. The PAC 12 is expected to rule a forfeit and you must reimburse missed revenue if your team is the cause of a cancelation.
From what other conferences are saying, there aren’t going to be any cancelations, only forfeitures. If our opponents cant field a team it will be counted as a win.
