I’m happy about the rush of new recruits we’ve had commit over the last month. This kid from Idaho is an awesome get (and it’s cool to see a top recruit from a small town) and there’s a good chance we get a few more solid croots. But as has always been, it’s not signing day yet and we have a long way. And even then with the transfer portal, it’s tough to get excited about them. I’m convinced in my head that 1/2 of these guys will not end up at Utah at all.

Totally agree. Each recruit for football, men’s and women’s basketball, could be gone in no time at all, more so than ever. It’s not like you’re signing Tom Chambers and Danny Vranes and they will be on the team together for four years.

I shrug about must things in college sports these days.

College sports are now nothing more than horribly run minor leagues for their respective sports. If there was at least some attempt at keeping things fair I would be okay with it. Without that, I have no need for college sports other than nostalgia. I have zero connection to University of Utah as a school, or any other school with a relevant athletic program.

I’m in the camp that believes it would be better for the teams to break away from the universities (and the NCAA) and just do it club style like they do in Europe.

My feeling of apathy is especially true for basketball. Say what you want about the NBA, but there is no denying that the game is more fun in the NBA. Most NCAA basketball games are nothing more than a free throw contest. At least the NBA has good players across the board.

I’d say the NBA is only a Three point contest and if they try to drive to the board its a free throw contest.

I agree on most counts, Chingus. But for me basketball has become unwatchable in college and NBA. The reasons for college are the same as yours. The NBA has no defense and it has just become less exciting than it was during the golden age in the 80’s and 90’s.

Exactly. I miss the tough defense of the NBA in the 90s. The games were 85-82 instead of 121-115. I can’t watch it today – it is so boring to me.

The recruiting timeframe is so long and there’s so much that can happen from the time a young man commits, to when he arrives on campus. And there from there (especially considering missions) to when he potentially sees the field, it feels silly to even care much about most names before they’re out there playing, because it seems like more than half the time, for one of a dozen reasons, that day never even arrives.

I think it’s a good thing for anyone interested to keep track of, it’s an okay barometer for the health of the program (less so in the NIL era). But honestly I simply don’t have the bandwidth to be dedicating any amount of thought to us possibly having a slightly more promising than normal right guard in 2028. It’s just not a needle mover for me when literally 100 other things could be occupying the time and energy at that moment. There are exceptions for very highly rated recruits and certain position like QB, but generally speaking the nitty gritty of recruiting just doesn’t concern me.

100%. Recruiting simply doesn’t matter any more.

Portal adds are all we should ever be excited about.
