Does anyone know anyone that knows anyone that can influence Ludwig to remove this play from his playbook. It has never worked in his 2nd stint at Utah and has gone wrong a few times, but he continues to go back to it. He needs help letting it go. Please help him.

LOL… I thought for sure he’d bag it after the last ultra failure. Did he run it again against Cal?

Every game Ludwig throws in a trick play and it seems like most of them fail miserably. They always seem to come and really illogical times too, like when we are moving the ball well. I mean, why continue doing what’s working?

The flea flicker with cam has worked reasonably well, the double reverse run or pass hasn’t worked since Covey executed it.

That one was a single reverse iirc

Pretty sure Covey’s play was a jet sweep or single reverse with pass option. He threw once and ran it the second time when his receiver was covered. It worked both times, but not the same play.

Thanks Robo, I just posted the same but you came with evidence.

It always comes when we are driving too. It hurt us in the rose bowl against penn.

You can count on a trick play every time Utah drives inside the 40. Part of the reason they don’t work is because the D has seen them on tape and is aware that something is coming. The other reason is that they aren’t based on any other plays Utah runs.

Vele never fakes a reverse so it’s pretty obvious something is up when he heads in that direction. In fact, Vele never is used on a screen either so he is the worst person to run something behind the LOS with. Not because he can’t throw but because the offense hasn’t set those plays up during their normal scheme. If you run a tunnel screen every once in a while with Vele, then there’s a legitimate reason for him to be moving towards the pile and maybe you can catch the D off guard.
