I feel like every fan base thinks their team plays best

When they are the underdog. Such a stupidly Cliché fan statement. It has everything to do with fan expectations going into the game.

I should say there are fans in every fan base that say this

When you’re an underdog, you win and it’s a great achievement.  Lose and you lost to a better team.

When you’re a favorite and win, you beat a team you should have beaten.   Lose, and you’re going to feel rather badly about it.
