KSL article on NIL

I don’t know if this is in Utah’s best interest or not. I do not like that BYU doesn’t have to disclose anything, making it possible for them to spend millions with no accountability.

Just by reading the article it doesn’t seem bad. I haven’t read the actual bill, but like you, I don’t like that byu would be able to cheat.

I don’t know how I feel about this, I haven’t read the bill, but the sponsor, Jordan Teuscher, is a BYU alum and a self proclaimed BYU fan in his twitter bio. Also this is the same guy who introduced the bill to get rid of collective bargaining for public sector unions so…I don’t know what to think.

Protesters at the capitol and union members at the proceedings in Utah have been making national news. I always find that interesting as an out of stater. I also have to laugh a bit knowing a large majority of those union members voted for the yes votes on HB 267.

I agree. but when you have rich alumni who confuse their religion with their college, (if BYU was the school for the church, and wanted people to go to BYU, they would say so. lol, Russell M. nelson went to Utah) they give a LOT of money. F*** Ryan Smith. The taxes was one thing but the millions are ridiculous. So yeah, BYU isn’t lacking in the money area. Time for someone to go convince the pro/ex-pro players to come help the U out. lol. this will help for starters

Not sure. It is still kind of a crazy landscape. I feel like this is a bubble swelling that will eventually pop.
I think schools should be allowed to choose. If they want to pay their kids ridiculous sums stop with the “student-athlete” facade.

Make them employees, get a CBA and pay them as professional athletes.

If you want to keep them as students give them degrees by all means. This does feel like the college football landscape is on the brink of imploding.

I’m currently taking a sports law class. It has been very interesting getting my professor’s take on the whole NIL thing. The NCAA had so many chances to put the fire out before it blew up in their face, but they were too greedy, and not just once. This happened time and time again and their status as untouchable eventually eroded. Those greedy assholes at the NCAA ruined college sports.
