I voted 8-4 mostly as an emotional hedge. If this program can’t win 8 games a year in the Big12 I don’t want to follow the team anymore. The last 2 years have been misery beyond anything and with the current state of NCAAFB portal+nil+realignment I’m almost ready to be done anyway.

Is the Big XII really known for defense first and smashmouth offensive football?

I’ve watched Utah football many years Ute Thunder and the only two teams that hurt us last year CU passing and ASU running
( both pac 12). I didn’t see any other offenses that looked that great to me. Pac12 had way better QBs and spread the field with playmakers.

I think we match up better in the Big12. The Qb rooms look stronger this year so it may be a different story line. Historically the Big12 has had some NFL running backs. Texas and Oklahoma had the dynamic offenses because of the many playmakers and they are gone.

Yeah, but I’ve never thought of the Big XII as a tough defensive league. Quite the opposite. Good offenses, mostly passing, and weak defenses.

Much different recruiting base. The PAC 12 had California Arizona Utah Oregon and Washington and now Texas as their hotspots. Lots of inner city and large numbers to pick from. More speed and athleticism in skill positions. The Big12 has a Texas-Midwest recruiting. More physical and hard working easy to coach recruits. Similar to what Utah has done in the past.

Last year Colorado (pac12) was the only team that our defense struggled with. Our defense matches better with Big12 offenses. Where we struggled was on offense. Our small frail WR were unable to get through the contact allowed on the outside. More physical play on the d- line and linebackers nullified our power run game. Hopefully the spread offense and a quarterback that can run and extend plays where the receivers can get separation will help. Losing a bigger receiver like Williams really hurts. I expect more motion and roll out pass run options which is what the pac12 did to give us problems defensively.

I read somewhere that On3 hired Josh Pate. (Sorry I don’t have the link.) Seems On3 could become just as legit as 247 and who knows? Maybe more if they really get momentum.

About 10 years ago it was the better service in the industry. Companies were bought and sold and for some reason they fell behind.

Yeah, fall quarter doesn’t start until Sep 22, so few students will attend (which isn’t great even when school is in session with the off campus stadium even as revered as the Rose Bowl, esp. if their team isn’t great). I think they’ve closed some sections, but maybe I’m thinking of the Coliseum, to at least manage some of the emptiness of not filling the 100k.
