They put ALL the athletes on the offense back then which often led to basketball type scores.

At one time Utah was involved in 2 record breaking games for most points by a losing team.  (Beat Lobos 58-49 in a snowstorm and lost to Air Force 56-49).

Gave us our only win over TDS in a decade.  I still remember the scene from the post game locker room where he screamed It’s Over!  (The losing streak to them).

      RIP Jim

I feel the 1997-98 team would have won it all if they hadn’t clinched the Western Conference so early (lost only one game in 3 series combined) and had to wait nearly 2 weeks to start the finals (the Bulls had a few longer series in the East.)    The Jazz came out flat after the long layoff.

Hopefully Donovan will be back soon.  He of course may need a game or two to really find his stride again.

If when I first picked up a basketball, I didn’t have fun, I would likely have put it right down again.

Samson made a lot of good catches for us.  Perhaps a perception of potentially having more chances at pass-happy BYU than at running-oriented Utah influenced him as well as the chance to play with his brother.

Can’t really wish him to fail except when we play against them.

They haven’t won by more than ONE possession since 1996.  Since that season, all of their wins have been by 7 points or less.

I’ve always been for playing games in the first half of the season in the evening when tempertures are generally balmy and pleasant and later games in the afternoon when the sun is stlll up.  But it’s about the TV networks.

Of course back when I started following the Utes, we usually had one televised game (if that) all year and fans  listened to Bill Marcroft on the radio for our road games and now we can watch every single game on TV, so it’s a trade off.

Stockton and Malone each played a lot of seasons where they sat zero games all year.  One of Karl’s longer unbroken iron man streaks ended when he sat out a game for suspension after a rather hard foul against Isaiah Thomas.

Have to think in some of those games they were playing a bit ‘banged up’ but went out there on the court anyway.  You sure never saw them take a rest day that is far too common in today’s league.

Sounds like Donovan was completely ready to play Sunday and was quite unhappy when doctors/trainers decided to scratch him shortly before the game.
