  Still trying to figure out how a team that recruits similar to Utah looked more physical and athletic against the Ducks (the team the b#ch slapped Utah in every aspect). I’m sure there are many reasons but I did find that what Wiscy does very well is winning their state when it comes to recruiting.
  
  I only went back 4 years but I assume this is pretty much what they do every year….. something that needs to be MANDATORY for the utes.

  Aside from nearby Notre Dame there is very little competition for recruits in state. The other state schools play in Div-2 if they have a team. There is a certain amount of loyalty to the Badgers that kids don’t want to go to the Badger’s BigTen rivals like Minnesota, Michigan or Ohio State.
  
  Traditionally teams like Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa stock their lines with farmboys who have built muscle mass by doing farm chores over the years like throwing hay bales and such.
  
  But didn’t Gary Anderson have some beef with the Wisconsin admissions department? Forgot what that was all about.

    That’s my point. Those top cheese fed OL farm boys stay home. Why are Utah’s top Polys leaving with stars in the eyes? If Utah locks up the state’s top OL/DL on a yearly basis things will change.

      I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Garffs, Eccles and Huntmans aren’t willing to pay kids under the table as much as Phil Knight and the Billionaire donors from SoCal are. Get them to pony up and Utah will land every top recruit from the state period.

      Because they don’t have to compete in-state with a P5-wannabe, who also presents religious motivation to some kids/parents, and a decent G5 school (USU). In Wisconsin its all about the Badgers (and the Packers) — big step down after the Badgers. Also perhaps the Polynesian players are more loyal to their Polynesian culture than to the Utah Utes, they identify more as Polynesian than Utahn. Thus they might gravitate toward a Poly coach like Sitake, or toward any team with a niche group of other Poly players. Just guessing.
      
      Also – no one shoot me for saying this – how many Polynesians play for Clemson or LSU? There are definitely some great Polynesian players, but they are not the be-all/end-all of elite football players.

        A couple of thoughts:
        
        If we’re competing for the top Utah high school football talent against the zoobs or USU, it’s best we close it down…. it’s over.
        
        Second, having a mormon Poly community living in Utah is a friggin gold mine. I can’t tell you the number of UofM fans who tell me “if you didn’t have that Poly/religion connection…”. Michigan has made Utah a recruiting location…. probably because they pull top talent out of the state.

        Madison is the reason. Kids from all over wisconsin grow up loving uw and madison seals it. One of the greatest college towns in america. You combine that with being a traditional power and its an easy choice. Slc is great but its not madison. And uw does out recruit utah. The wrs are much better.
