I’m working at home for at least the next two weeks.  My 7 year old is out of school so he’s here making it hard for me to get work done. I decided to postpone my weekly visits to my personal trainer until the issue is over. My favorite place to recreate, Alta, is closed. So Sunday I backcountry skied. Hike up for 2 hours and ski down for 3 minutes. LOL.  We had plenty of toilet paper to star with so didn’t need to mow people over with a cart at costco to get some. We have lots of food on hand so not much of a worry there.  Still want to go out to dinner but probably won’t. Wife brought up the discussion of getting some guns and training. Im down for that.

I am retired, so this doesn’t directly affect me too much.  But, as I posted above – I am very concerned about how all of this will affect our economy.  I just talked to a friend whose business is shutdown.  They have enough cash to last 9 weeks.  At that point, they will be bankrupt and forced to close the doors for good.  Over 500 people will lose their jobs.

We need to be balanced in how we address this.

Bytheway, I do not understand closing Alta.  That doesn’t make any sense to me.

There are many places at a ski resort where there can be hundreds of people together.  Lodges, restaurants, lift lines.

Honestly I’m not as worried about the economy as some are. We will have a recession, but I think it will be short-lived because the driver of the recession is so different from what we typically see. Consumer confidence remains high, and despite the recent drops in stocks, the major indices still remain high. Plus I think once we are all allowed to go outside again, there will be significant pent-up demand for things like traveling, eating out, and shopping.

Some businesses in the service industry won’t survive, and that sucks, but I strongly believe that other ones will sprout up in their place quickly.

P.S. Smith’s is hiring people sight-unseen, and Amazon is trying to fill over 100,000 positions right now. Jobs are out there.

I have no confidence that this virus will stop spreading any time soon. Good luck everyone.

Wow, I actually agree with you on this one.  We are not out of the woods until a vaccine becomes available.  if you think it’s scary now… wait till next fall when the economy is on the ropes and Corona gets its a second wind.

When did influenza get a vaccine? A long time after it sprouted up and we survived and thrived as a species just fine.

Honestly, it’s been kinda great. My work decided to shut down and send everyone home. So it’s been a paid vacation for the past few weeks. I’ve watched a bunch of YouTube (I keep forgetting Revis played for Pittsburgh). Finally started using my audible account.

The only hard thing was we had to cancel gpas bday party. He is 88 and we thought with everyone flying in it would have been a bit risky.

I feel so lucky to be in an industry that is helped by the fact that people are being driven to their homes. Remote working really makes my company’s products in more demand.
I also already worked from home, so not only am I steady as she goes, but things are picking up and my quarterly bonuses should increase substantially over the next few quarters.
I truly feel for those that are hurt by this, though. I have a friend who is a bar owner, and her day gig is as a gate agent for Delta – she’s hurting.
