ParticipantBecause our first game was a conference opponent and everything was upside down in 2020.
We start with Weber State. We can’t be too worried about Jay Hill knowing who our starting QB will be. I believe it has been a legit battle between two qualified young men. But, IMO we should have a QB announced by Thursday (2 weeks before the game) or at least Monday after they have evaluated the film from the Saturday scrimmage. The starters need to start working together and build some continuity IMO.
I honestly do not care who it is. Both seem to be good guys and very talented.
Go Utes!!!

ParticipantStarter will be announced in the building this week…public may or may not know before game 1. One’s will run with One’s by Monday latest and probably before that so plenty of time to work together.

ParticipantHow about RBs?

ParticipantRB battle is ongoing. Thomas/Pledger and then Bernard in a Vickers type role. Curry in short yardage situations. Still a ways to go but I think all 4 will play at some point.

ParticipantBefore or after the Saturday scrimmage?

ParticipantI think it depends on practice this week but it’s possible for sure. Pretty sure they have the guy earmarked and are just making sure both get a fair shake before announcing.

ParticipantRising said he has been pretty close to 100% this past week. He isn’t on a throw count or anything.

ParticipantRising is the long term QB with two more years if the new guys don’t beat him out. My WAG is Brewer gets the nod after Saturday’s scrimmage unless he has a bad scrimmage. Essentially gives the team three weeks before the BYU game to consistently rep as a starting unit. Nothing against Weber State as they’re a solid FCS program, this is an organized scrimmage for Utah, at least it better be. If Utah struggles against Weber, there are bigger program problems than choosing a QB. My eye is 100% on the Oline. A lot of big talk coming out of camp about how good the Oline is going to be this season. Will they show up against USC, UO, and ASU?
I find it interesting the 2019 season is often refereced as a team having special chemistry and a great season. I agree other than the games against UT, USC, and UO. Utes were outscored 105-56 combined in those three games. All three of those games Utah was out coached and out played in the trenches, especially when on offense. Understand injuries played a role on defense. Hoping the Oline lives up to all the preseason hype, especially with pass blocking! Go Utes…get over the top this year and win a P12 Championship!

ParticipantI heard that Brewer got most of the no 1 snaps yesterday. Is that a sign?
