BYU came to play and we did not. It was obvious from the beginning. We were beaten in the trenches. BYU came prepared with some new blitz packages. We did nothing new or innovative. We did not even learn during the game that Hall needed to be contained.
So, what does this all mean? I am not sure. I hope we are not as bad as BYU made us look last night. I remember early in Whitt’s career – we were trounced 27-0 by a mediocre UNLV team. I think we then went on to win 9 straight games. So, the best-case scenario is this debacle serves as a wake-up call to the coaches and players. No doubt we have problems that need fixing. Are they fixable with the personnel that we have? I really don’t have any idea.
All of this being said, I felt guilty feeling so bad on 9/11 when so many people suffered tragic loss and pain. I need to keep in mind that my personal frustration about a football game is nothing in the big scheme of things.
Go USA!!!
