OL

I know we have been hard on the OL on the 4th and 2 in the second quarter.  I got a chance to rewatch that play and noted that it was poor play design.  Trips on the left were just off the tackle.  No WR on the right.  On the snap the closest Y DB saw the handoff and was able to break around the LT’s back.  On the right side the CB was up on the line without any other responsibility and broke in around the RT’s back.  The Utah OL fired off and had enough push for the first down, however the two defenders breaking met Bernard before he could get behind his line.  My point is the trips did nothing for the play.  However, if one was on the right the CB would have to chase out of the play.  If the two remaining spread out farther their defenders would not be in the play.  The play design allowed two defenders tight each side of the line to have free run at the RB taking the handoff out of the shotgun 7 yards short of the line to gain.  I have no idea why that play is in the book or how you could possibly hope to run out of it.  To be fair, Bam helped inside and let his end assist on the stop but it was the other two that gave no option.
