Zach Keller – ever heard of him?

So my daughter, a senior here in Colorado mentioned one day Zach came to class in Utah gear. She asked him why and he said he was being recruited by Utah. I told her, tell him it’s a great school. Anyway fast forward to the past three weeks. The team at my daughter’s high school, also where my wife works is ranked #1 in Colorado. I hadn’t gone to any games but Zach intrigued me. They won the state championship last year and had a ton of returning players. I’ve only watched Zach play one game, I think he was either injured or couldn’t play in the other game. He is 6 ft. 9 in. and a serious baller. Apparently he played for the Utah prospects in league ball.

We made his final four but in the end he elected to go to Wake Forest. Anybody know if he cooled due to the coaching change?

Anyway the game I saw him play I was amazed at his play. They were playing against a team which was clearly overmatched. Zach played about 16 of the 32 minutes of game time. They won by over 20, but what really amazed me was his 3 point shot. They were like butter! The other team which happens to have a really good football team and is the equivalent of USC in Colorado were jawing at him and the rest of the team. He’d get the ball down court, get this little smirk on his face and just drain a three. Then jog back to the other end. He was a cold blooded killer. Not c**ky, just a silent assassin. Would love to have seen him as a Ute. He handles the ball pretty well for a big man but seemed to get bothered by the shorter opponents in the lane. They were like pesky little ants. Funny thing he wasn’t even the high scorer he scored 20 in about 16 minutes and the center who is about an inch shorter scored 22, and hit quite a few threes. though I think he might have played north of 20 minutes.

So anybody know much else about Zach Keller?

I don’t know anything about it… however, it is extremely hard to compete with the first placed ACC team for a player. Then add in a new coaching staff that everyone is watching to see what we have. Hard to say we missed our chance.

I did a bit more research. We were one of the first two teams to offer, and he had us in his final four.

Also he was recruited by Coach Smith and his staff.

So I guess that is a win in and of itself.
