ParticipantBy the way, when it comes to the religion/politics at play here, I do not care at all. I am just curious.
Some of Utah Football’s team issue gear has the Fellowship of Christian Athletes logo on it. For example,
and
If you glance at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes website, you can read their Statement of Faith and see that their usage of the word “Christian” really just means “Protestant.” How did they end up on team-issue gear at a public university? Especially one where the religion it represents is a minority at the school?
Anybody got the scoop?

ParticipantIt’s not team issued gear. It’s FCA (which is a campus community) gear. Those coaches and players are wearing it since they’re part of the community- a huge portion of the athletes at the U are also a part of it

ParticipantGlad we cleared that up. we almost had a board meltdown.

ParticipantAre you sure? That seems unlikely to me, because
-The first picture is from the Iowa State pregame entrance, and you can clearly see all three other players wearing the same outfit, even matching shoes. This is coordinated. And I doubt that the media manager of the football team said “Hey everybody, for the Iowa State pregame wear that hoodie from that club that a lot of you are a part of!” That wouldn’t work, because some guys wouldn’t have it.
-Scalley is wearing it in my second picture. I’ve seen Whitt wearing it. As you can see for yourself on their website, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has stated beliefs that contradict what the Mormon church believes. I do not think that these Mormon guys–when there are undoubtedly Mormon campus communities around–would start repping a group that does not even consider them Christian.

ParticipantYes, it’s from the Utah chapter of the FCA. They hold their ‘huddle’ at capital church and all religions participate. Including Scalley. Plenty of other athletes wear the same hoodie. Brynna Maxwell, Jenna Johnson, maile okeefe. I’ve got a friend who wears the same hoodie to games, since at least 2019.
And for someone who wanted to leave religion out of it, sure seems like you want to judge their choices. Wait til you learn the team chaplain isn’t Mormon.
(The shoes have nothing to do with it)

ParticipantPoint taken–I did not know that the FCA at Utah operated like that. Neglect my second point.
Still, I’m not convinced. I just do not think that a game-day uniform would ever include non-team issue gear. If not everybody has it, it won’t work as a game day uniform. If everybody has it, it’s team issue.
Are you disagreeing that they coordinate what to wear pregame? Or are you saying that the pre-coordinated game day outfits might include non-team issue gear?

ParticipantIt was senior night for Ty Jordan and A Lowe. Leadership committee could have requested the team wear it because of that? I don’t know. I do know that it’s not team issued gear

ParticipantSeems like you very much want to discuss politics and religion

ParticipantHuh? I was legitimately curious about this. I tried hard to get to the bottom of it without insulting anybody’s religion.
If I said something inflammatory without noticing it, please point it out to me. That was not my intent.

ParticipantLOLOLOL! The Team is wearing a hoodie with a specific logo…. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!
Is this some team conspiracy? Has the team been brainwashed by the *gasp* CHRISTIANS?!?!
What even is this thread, LOL?

ParticipantIs curiosity dead?
If the football team was showing up to games wearing hoodies from the Electrical Engineering Student Association, I would be asking about that, too. The religious aspect adds a wrinkle, but the question is ultimately why the Utah football team is repping an organization other than the Utah football team.
I tried to make it clear that I wasn’t up in arms about this. Perhaps I could have written it better, but it’s also on you to not assume that I’m trying to fight just because religion is involved.
It will be a sad day when we cannot ask questions just because we want to know the answer without people assuming we must have an ulterior motive.

ParticipantYou misunderstand me, I am not implying that you shouldn’t be curious, I just think you are curious about uninteresting or stupid things. Why is this such a big deal to you? What is your ultimate point that you seem to be dancing around the edges of making, but won’t come out and just say? You are kind of acting like a turd (no offense).

ParticipantIt’s pretty normal to see something you don’t understand and get curious.
It’s also pretty normal to not feel interested in a topic others find interesting.
What is not normal is to, upon seeing another person pursuing a question you find uninteresting, go out of your way to belittle them for even asking it. Why join the thread? You didn’t provide any information. You posted just to sling mud.
My “I don’t care about religion/politics” comment was to prevent a couple arguments I wanted to avoid. Apparently, it just made some people think I was overcompensating. I really don’t have an agenda here. If I do, I’ve sure done a bad job with it.
Is it so hard to believe I’m interested in this? People geek out over uniforms and team gear all the time. This is pretty much the same thing. And college sports teams usually drape themselves in their own gear/colors/branding. Pulling up to a home game with another organization’s logo front and center is worth some curiosity.

ParticipantI don’t care about religion / politics, but LOOK, is that a Christian logo on University gear? I don’t understand! Somebody hold me…
