  Now that all the ‘experts’ have officially jumped off the Utah bandwagon and jumped on Stanford’s, I wonder what they’re going to say when Wazzu beats ‘Furd Saturday? Remember, Wazzu lost to a FCS team. Will ‘Furd drop 10-or-so spots like Utah did losing to a team that was not only the favorite at home (-6.5) but on many preseason National Championship candidate lists or will they make unranked Wazzu look like a world beater and only slightly punish ‘Furd in the AP and Coaches polls?
  
  I believe the CFP’s top-25 list comes out this weekend and I wouldn’t be surprised if Utah is ranked at #10? We’ll see.
  
  When Monday rolls around, the national college football conversation will be, “Does the Pac-12 even get a team in the CFP’s?”
  
  My answer: Probably not.

  Do you really think WSU will beat Stanford? I wouldn’t be shocked by it, but maybe a little surprised. Arena Football meets smashmouth, anything can happen. I don’t miss dealing with the fighting Leaches and they are on a nice little conference win streak beating Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona.

        Ah come on Moose. Yardage wise Utah was very competitive in that game. The game was statistically very close if not for the turnovers. You weren’t anywhere near as bad as the final score indicated, and I still think Utah is the best or second best team in the PAC. You still have a great shot at a NY6 bowl.
        
        I’ll come clean. I am a BYU guy, but I like Utehub because the conversation is civil and you guys actually talk about football here. As a BYU an, your game against USC reminded me of a lot of some of the recent rivalry games. Statistically close in terms of total yardage gained, but ugly turnovers and self destruction make the final score look a lot worse than the game really was. You still have a solid team, maybe the best in the history of your program.

        Yardage isn’t always a great stat. Sometimes it means you had awful turnovers that allowed them to score without having to earn it. I don’t think it really tells the story here.

        The game stats were basically equal, except for the -4 turnover margin, the result of 4 INTs, 3 of which lead directly to 21 points. The entire momentum shifted after that first INT. Prior to that, Utah owned both sides of the LOS. After that, USC owned both sides of the LOS. It became increasingly apparent in the 2nd half that Utah’s Defense was gassed. You simply cannot give 4 extra possessions with great field position to a team as talented as USC. Add in some missed tackles, inopportune penalties and it was all USC needed. Most of this can be corrected. Not sure whether the QB play can be corrected. He’s a senior who’s putting up a TD/INT ratio you’d expect of a freshman and he’s doing that while not putting up a lot of yards. However, we’ve rode this QB this far, might as well just ride it to the end and hope for the best.

        There you go THEeyepatch, a coug fan who also thinks 54-10 was a competitive game agrees with you. You can’t say without the turnovers it was a close game, that’s like saying without the usc touchdowns it was a close game. It wasn’t a close game. Our QB was not making good decisions, there were about 5 other passes that could have been picked off as well but were dropped. The game was not competitive.

  I don’t think you can simply compare stats or yardage to determine if a game was close or not. The team who is behind might rack up a bunch of junk yards passing to catch up, while the D plays prevent. Meanwhile the team with the lead may go conservative and just run most the time, not racking up much more yardage.
  
  USC had more fire and was beating us across the board in most positions. Barring unreal performances by Covey and Paul we were dominated for 3 quarters.

    The only “stat” that counts is the final score.
    
    We got waxed by USC. Bottom line. Turnovers are part of the game every bit as much as solid drives that eat up a lot of yardage and result in scores are. They all count, they all are applicable.
    
    I was horribly impressed with USC’s size and athleticism. I am so glad we are recruiting better, bigger, faster talent at the U now, otherwise we would be a joke in this conference.

      USC’s 3rd-string players were 4* players. We only have 5 players who were 4* recruits on our entire team. That is how crazy talented usc is.

  I re-watched the game and then again in Football in 60. We were dominated in the 2nd quarter, hands down. Every other quarter was competitive, although 1 long drive in the 3rd wore down our defense. I’m not nearly as pessimistic about the loss after re-watching.
  
  As long as we stay committed to running the ball going forward, like we should, I don’t think we s**t the bed again.

  What’s scary is I think USC has already gotten past the “worst” part of their program’s situation. I only see them getting better over the next years, which is frightening for us.
  
  That’s all dependent of course on them not hiring a zoob drunkard as a head coach though.

  I watched the First half of the USC game on Football in 60. Also caught some plays on The Drive. On the play before he throws an INT (forget whether it was the first or second) he rolls out to his left and as he takes a slide, he’s hit by a defender, first in the shoulder pads, but ultimately helmet-to-helmet as his head snaps hard. At the game and on replays, given how they called targeting hits this year, I thought it could have been targeting. Regardless, TW was not the same after that hit. His bell was rung hard. TW is not one to pull himself out of the game, but in retrospect, they probably should have. He might have been concussed on the play. He certainly was making some questionable decisions thereafter.
