      Why not????

IF the Jazz stay healthy maybe they make some noise. Sounds so much like Utah Football. Also Mitchell showed up at Kearns high and polished his rep a little more. Jazz fans are spreading their legs for this kid.

Good read, with some excellent points.

Basketball is all about matchups, and I while I don’t believe the Warriors “fear” anyone, I do believe the Jazz are the last team they want to see in the playoffs.  We blew them out 3 times last year, and that was no fluke.  That said, Houston is a bad matchup for us.

If all teams remain healthy, I think the Jazz are the third best team in the West.  I think Houston did get worse, but are still better than Utah.  The gap did get much shorter, though.  Paul is a year older, Ariza and Mbah a Moute were big losses for them, and Melo is the most overrated player possibly in NBA history, and has become an absolute cancer with his “I won’t come off the bench/I’m not a sixth man” attitude.  I see it as:

      1.Golden State

      2. Houston

      3. Utah

      4. OKC

      5. San Antonio

      6. Lakers

      7. and 8. Any two of: Portland, Denver, New Orleans, and Minnesota

Great points and is exactly my view on things. Portland is still really good with Lillard. I also don’t know how San Antonio will be this year. I would switch them both. Portland and Jazz were hot teams after the break.

Portland is a bad matchup for the Jazz, and definitely have the ability to run off a 10-15 game hot streak, but I think their ceiling is 7th.  There’s questions about their mental tougness after getting swept by a flawed Pelicans team, and Lillard was vocally displeased with their losses in free agency.  I could see Lillard demanding a trade or McCollum shipped out at the deadline if the team is average at the midway point.  Dame has said he’d love to play for either the Lakers or the Jazz, and with several Jazz guys on expiring deals (Rubio, Favors, Burks), the Jazz have the pieces to trade for him.  LOVE the idea of a Lillard/Mitchell backcourt.

My logic on San Antonio is pretty much that they won nearly 50 games without Kawhi Leonard all season.  So basically, they picked up Demar Derozan and Jakob Poetl (the perfect Popovich player) for Danny Green.  They did lose Tony Parker and Kyle Andersen, and Ginobili and Gasol are 1,000 years old, but I like their mix of pieces.  Everyone is a savvy vet and they all know their roles in a proven system.

Lillard and Mitchell on a team would rival GS for best backcourt in the NBA.

Jazz are winning it all after we sign Lillard.

The only caveat is that the Jazz absolutely LOVE Rubio.  It’s the eternal struggle with our franchise: do we stick with loyalty or do we do whatever it takes to bring in the best players possible?  Both strategies have their plusses and minuses.  Rubio’s a great guy, great locker room presence, and great for the community, but he isn’t half the player Lillard is.  Not saying Dame wouldn’t be a great guy too, but since he plays the same position as Rubio, Ricky would almost certainly have to be part of the deal.  And I think the loss of Rubio would eat at Miller/Starks/Lindsey on a personal level.

It would be bittersweet for about a week after the news of signing in reality a top five PG. The only pg I would want before Lillard is Curry. I say top five but my list is Curry and Lillard number two at the PG position.
