There were a ton of empty seats at Stanford last night and UCLA is far from a sellout.  WSU, UA and Cal rarely sellout.  USC is fickle and typically has plenty of seats available.  It seems that Oregon, Utah and UW are the only sure sellouts in the conference.  Seems odd to me.

Every year Stanford and Cal attendance is brought up I should take a shot. I wouldn’t have a liver but I would be smiling.

Cal improved its stadium by reducing the seats in it. Stanford fans NEVER have good attendance.

Cont….USC and UCLA are not college/football cities. Rose Bowl and Coliseum are huge. That’s why putting two nfl teams there is a head scratcher by the NFL to me.

If USC has a down year, it’ll be even worse.

      90,000+ seat stadiums

      USC Coliseum: 93,600

      Rose Bowl: 90,888

and, as others have pointed out, there is not a strong “college football culture” in Southern Cal as some other places, due to a greater variety of other attractions/things to do, such as pro sports, tripping to Vegas, world class amusement parks, going to beach, etc.  Also, I think there are a lot of transplants there from all over the US and they are not as loyal to the SoCal teams due to loyalty to their home state teams — with all the sports networks and streaming one stay home to see their hometown team(s) play rather than attend live football at SC or UCLA.
