TDS, season predictions?

  Based on what TDS looked like versus Arizona, what are you thinking will be the key for beating TDS? Clearly it’s a very run-first offense with lots of jet sweeps, setting up a lot of play-action passing; when a non play-action pass was called, Mangum looked terrible and somewhat flat-footed. Arizona’s D-line was terrible and I can’t imagine Utah could be worse than that with it’s recently successful D-line and with the addition of Gary Anderson. To be honest though, I’m not very concerned about their defense considering Khalil Tate didn’t really move his legs at all. I’m thinking that if the play calling is in favor of Tyler Huntley’s strengths, particularly as a mobile QB he could very easily have a field day against the defense they played against Arizona. Their secondary (particularly Wilcox) didn’t look so great on the deep ball and I’m interested to see how that shakes out against some of these next teams coming up
  
  I think this season there is no reason to not win the south considering how terrible the south looked this opening week. I think all 4 teams from the north will certainly test Utah (mainly Washington, Stanford, and Oregon) but also Washington state because of the recent history. My concern is that the first 3 Pac-12 games are Washington, Washington State, and Stanford with the last two on the road and any early losses could halt any future momentum. To finish the season we face Oregon, then Colorado, and then TDS. I think Colorado should be manageable, Oregon a challenge, and I’m confident but unsure about TDS since it all depends on how much of that O-line and Canada stay healthy.

  I think BYU looks a lot better than they looked last year. But, that still isn’t great. We are just better than they are, from top to bottom.
  
  I think you’ll see a much different looking BYU team this weekend vs Cal.
  
  Cal held North Carolina to 37 yards in the first half then went home. If Cal can learn to fight to the end, the game could get very ugly for BYU.
  
  So, I’d hold off forming any opinions until after the Cal game.

  Arizona has had an undersized D line for 4 to 5 years now. Decent sized P5 O lines will handle them. They have now lost 5 of their last 6 games with essentially the same personnel. Only win over hapless Oregon State. No matter how much they score, their D can’t stop people.
  
  Cal has good D, but O looked bad against NC. Justin Wilcox has them in the right direction (on Defense), but may take another year to two for offense to get there.

  I think you’re right about waiting to form an opinion until after the Cal game. I think (for both teams last night) neither really knew what to expect from the other on offense and didn’t really adjust super well at half-time. Like you noted, Arizona, like Cal vs UNC, fell asleep during the second half and especially during the 3rd quarter. So, if Cal can fight through, it COULD get ugly.
  
  However, in defense of TDS, I believe the type of offense they run could be considered a “downhill” style offense. That is to say that it gets better as the game goes on by wearing out it’s opponents. So I’ll ask: how much of Arizona’s struggles last night came from going home and how much came from the downhill nature of the offense?

    I think ALL of Arizona’s defensive problems came from BYU pushing them around. BYU’s offense straight up hit them in the mouth. It was actually beautiful to watch. Reminded me of the Norm Chow/John White offense.
    
    I don’t think BYU can do that to Cal. And I don’t think BYU’s secondary is good enough to stop Cal. That’s why I think it’s an uglier game.

        Man…Mangum has so much more talent…but Hays was a baller.
        
        Tough. I think that Utah team beats BYU so I’ll take Hays.

  I predict that whatever happens next week and for the remainder of the season, I still will continue to not like them very much.
  Oh, and the Utes are gonna kill ’em.

  probably a 7-9 win team depending on how their schedule turns out. I didnt watch this game but byu has some talent just zero depth and holes around the depth chart
