I think the rest of the season for these offensive coaches is an audition for next year. Whether that’s for Whitt or Scalley (I think MS is HC next year) it’s an opportunity to show what you can do. Especially under these circumstances. That includes Freddie.

I wouldn’t worry about that Jay Hill is gone after this year. USU is open. They would hire him in an instant. Or another head coaching job.

I believe Whit came to Ludwig and told him I’m going to have to demote you. Ludwig understood the offense has been trash and his playcalling along with it and stepped down. Ludwig was always a mediocre OC that of course was elevated by the talent on his roster. Not to say other OCs aren’t elevated as well. Ludwig was just predictable and unimaginative. I wish him well in his next stop or life in general, but this was long overdue.

It seems our pass plays are generic. No different formations (move Singer around) no motion to give the receiver an advantage and pass plays that take too long to develop. The defenses never look confused and know right where to go. TCU had our defense in disarray several times.

He was making comments even in Sept about being on the fence. Things have really gone downhill since then. My gut feeling is that he really wants to leave on a high note (which is why he came back after both Rose Bowl losses), but it’s also likely he is starting to realize that not every legend gets a storybook ending, and that’s okay.

Yes, it was an interesting interview. Its been very obvious that opposing defenses knew what Utah was doing… because we kept running the same plays. Like our swing pass plays took so long to develop the defender was smashing them as they caught the ball.

Kuithe has lost a step and appears out of shape. I think Ludwig has overlooked that and those wildcat and sweep plays were proof. He is a great pass catcher, but he’s not burning past anyone anymore.

Listening to Scott Mitchell talk on the radio today about the lack of adjustments was maddening. Basically saying from his college and pro days, he’s never seen an offense that doesn’t adapt to what the defense is doing. Which was happening. It would be nice to know more about how the protections are called and shifted. I think the players are solid and since we generally have had good run game you can’t really say the OLine is all bad.

Genuine question. How do you see the rest of this season going? The guards can’t pass block, the pressure will come straight up the middle. How does the offense get fixed?

leaving the injured Cam on the field in that game when it was obvious he couldn’t make an accurate throw was 100% on the coaching staff. Pretty sure EVERYONE was confused about that.

I don’t agree at all with the take on the offensive side. Outside of Kuithe who I do think has lost a step I don’t think we’re lacking at all. Singer & Parks are solid. Singer in fact to me is one of those “always open” guys and we just don’t throw him the ball nearly enough.
