Agree w/ this. I’d be excited to see what, if anything, Scalley would do differently than Whitt (mainly on offense, of course).

Harlan is supposedly a guy that gets booster donations. While I think he has done well with NLI transition. Basketball is completely held back by him. Smith was a horrible hire.

I have seen many people unsatisfied with Scalley. I am like who trust Harlan to make a hire? I think aiming for “Whitt Jr” is 100% the best decision until we find an AD.

Aside from his ridiculous response about why they didn’t bench Cam, I appreciated what Whittingham said after the loss. At least they know what the main problems are (red zone offense, poor tackling, etc.) and aren’t shying away from that. That’s a positive. The bigger negative is that we’ve known those were problems for weeks and they haven’t…[Read more]

Definitely feels like the stranglehold JoePa had over Penn State.
How have Harlan’s other hires gone? I only follow Utah football and gymnastics and he did a terrible job by keeping Farden as long as he did.

He does not seem to have the fire in the belly he used to. I think he made the decision to retire after the season, and his mind is on his golf game and skiing.

Our defense has kept us in games but here’s why I’m concerned about Scalley:
1. Defense has been pretty good but has regressed quite a bit the last two years.
2. We have been having major problems tackling 3 of the last four years. Remember Florida in Gainesville + last year + this year.
3. Major problems with over pursuing on rush defense.…[Read more]

It probably came off as more flippant than intended but the concept is sound. It’s more about making sure that all the pieces are in place for a seamless transition as quickly as possible so that you don’t allow an untenable situation to continue. I’m not there with Whitt and have never called for him to go but if the decision is that he needs…[Read more]

If Utah doesn’t win the Big XII title, then it has little to no chance of getting a bid to the CFPs. There are too many other teams with bigger and better brands and in stronger conferences that will be selected before them.

It would take a MASSIVE MIRACLE if that team won the next six games and others lost three games for the Utes to reach the conf champ game and win it.

Well Eagle, Scalley is 11 years older than Dillingham…if he hadn’t stayed in Utah, he would have been a HC somewhere already.

My original post wasn’t aimed at anyone specific, and I don’t mean to assign blame. I wanted to share an observation based on some online takes. It might even have some merit, but could have been expressed more thoughtfully. I realize that my frustration influenced my tone, and I apologize if I offended anyone.
@2008 I appreciate your insights (ev…[Read more] -

Wanting and being capable to
Play are different things. Well paid coaches need to make those tough decisions. There is no way of knowing if Wilson, Rose or Huard would have done better.Gundy dumped his QB against Utah. Second guy sucked and then he put his guy back in who made it a game.
Rising is at a point though where mental toughness…[Read more]

What’s left for the season. There is no championship. There isn’t. Throw out all that positive talk and face facts right in the face. This team can’t and won’t run the table. No way.
Cam is broken. He’s done. Thank him graciously. Tell him he’s medically done and just let him collect his check, by the way there’s some resentment in…[Read more] -

Yeah I don’t know about that last statement. I don’t get fans fascination with Hill. You have zero evidence to suggest that he will be all world. I still think we roll with Scalley.
My biggest problem with Scalley is he really is still young and doesn’t have connections outside of Utah at all. I wonder where he gets the offensive coaches.

The score dictated leaving Rising in since it was never more than a TD difference. Whitt can always fall back on that logic. At the same time, look at the MLB playoffs. Aces get pulled in one run games because every game is must win. But for some reason, football coaches are married to the idea that the QB is off limits unless it’s a blowout…[Read more]

The consecutive bowl losses really make you wonder. Penn State and Northwestern are particularly discouraging.
I say all of the time that Utah needs to get into the Big10. But damn even in a bowl game all those teams had to do was downshift once before coasting to a win. How do we think regular season will be?

It’s tough to watch a once dominant football program falling flat on its face!
It’s tough to watch a once amazing QB return (injured) as a shadow of his former self.
It’s tough to watch a once superior Coaching staff stumble around with calls and decisions like Keystone Cops.
It’s tough to watch a once proud defense give up plays like a…[Read more] -

I don’t trust Harlan to have that conversation with Whitt or to make a correct decision. In fact. if Scalley is not the next HC, I don’t trust Harlan to be the deciding factor as to who the next HC would be.
