Wilson is such a bad QB. His overconfidence in his abilities leads him to believe he can complete any pass regardless of coverage. Because of this he doesn’t go through his progressions. T Lewis totally set Wilson up on this play. Wilson expected Lewis to take the BYU player running the 5 yard clear out thus opening up the WR down the sideline. Lewis recognized the play and stuck with the other WR. Wilson didn’t even hesitate to throw the ball even though Lewis was in perfect position to make the int.
Lewis keeps his head up and eyes in the backfield reading Wilson the whole way.
Here’s the other thing if Lewis does take the underneath route Blackmon has moved to give help over the top and is in perfect position to absolutely blowup the BYU WR but the tip by Lewis and the reflex reaction by Blackmon and a pick 6.
This is all learned by Utah players through film study of Wilson and his tendencies.
Utah just doesn’t have better players. They have better Coaches as well.
Wilson gets caught up in the wash of bodies and gets ping ponged around by a couple of Utah players
No question Utah has better coaching. No idea what’s going through the coaching staff’s head for BYU.
Dropping 8 in coverage against Moss?
Only 7 touches for their back that averaged 6.5 YPC?
33 Pass attempts (not including the 8 scrambles by Wilson that were pass plays)?
Wildcat direct snap?
Going for it on 4th that gave Utah a FG and momentum early?
These are just a few, but the game was riddle by stupid coaching decisions and poor game planning by TDS
Grimes did say that they wanted to run the ball more and they had more plays drawn up for the second half, but they only had 15 snaps the entire half. Kinda hard to run the ball if you don’t have it.
^^^ this. I was saying all off season that TDS fans were putting too much on him and pumping him up too much just like they did with Mangum and look how that turned out. A lot of Ute fans came at me for saying that. Wilson isn’t the worst QB out there, but he isn’t as good as he or his fans think he is. He had one good half against a disinterested Ute team and a bad team in a bowl game and for some reason, people pumped him up.
