      Cal has started the season 5-0 six previous times since 1950. Cal has had a losing record in its remaining games in all of those seasons but one, the 1991 season.

      For whatever reasons (strength of schedule increases, injuries mount as the season progresses, over performed in first 5 games, etc.), since 1950, Cal has not fared very well, in general, after starting a season 5-0. Will this year be different?

      Year X-X / Y-Y
      1952 2-3 / 7-3
      1991 4-2 / 9-2
      1993 3-4 / 8-4
      1996 1-5 / 6-5
      2005 2-4 / 7-4
      2007 1-6 / 6-6
      2015 ?-? / ?-?

      X-X – Record after the first 5 games
      Y-Y – Overall regular season record

      Their next 7 games are:

      @Utah

      @UCLA
      USC
      @Oregon
      Oregon State
      @Stanford
      ASU

      Just looking at there next three best case is 1-2. Ucla is pretty beat up and could drop one again. Usc and Utah I don’t give them much of a shot. I think they beat Oregon St but they could be riding a four game losing streak heading into that game as a worst case scenario. Goff potentially against Oregon could have earth shattering numbers.
