I’m well known to be a basketball-first fan and I don’t care for football as a sport quite as much. But I would still take the football wins over the hoops natty. I understand that football runs the show, and without that football success, we’d still be in the MWC today.
As a basketball fan, being in the MWC means that our absolute ceiling would be roughly what USU is: A team that win 25 games a year feasting on scrubs, gets shafted in tournament seeding, and is a perennial first-round exit to some blue blood.
I’m still hopeful that someday the school will take basketball seriously again. That, combined with being in the Big 12, means we could be a serious contender in basketball again. And we wouldn’t be in the Big 12 without those football seasons.
