He still needs the kneecap surgery and 2020 Zach ain’t walking through that door. And there aren’t any more Wilsons to chase after. Perhaps he develops more, but I’m fine moving on and getting some transfer portal qbs. I wish Rose stays though.

  • I thought it would be:
    Cam 😉
    +Dampier
    Isaac
    Rose
    Huard
    +2 freshman

JK. But not. For some dreaded feeling, I think it will be Cam, Dampier, 2 freshman. Please be Rose, Dampier, Huard (need a good scout team qb), 2 FR.

No kidding on the conferences. Mississippi St. is #15/16 in SEC and would be #2 in the Big 12.

  • Woods would have been good to see what he could do. More like a before-season-starting injury.

Don’t forget Alford also was 0/1 with 1 INT 😉

  • I also am withholding optimism until I see how he works out at Utah.

OTOH, it’s hard to pin the 5-7 record on Beck when the defense was giving up 38 points per game. There were only four worse scoring defenses in FBS.

Utah had a couple of common opponents with UNM this year. Lobos scored 39 at Arizona (Utah 10) and lost because their defense…[Read more]

Shows maturity to realize with 1 year left if you want to continue playing football after this, it might require a shift away from QB.

  • DataUte replied to the topic Mike Gundy in the forum Football 5 months ago

This year was a total flop for them and shouldn’t have been that bad with Gordon and even a game manager qb. The defense was terrible, but it just seems the whole team gave up after Utah beat them (ok, a couple more losses after that). Always hard (as we are experiencing) deciding what to do with a 20 year tenure coach.

  • Not too much of a surprise. He lost the starting job to Hawkins late in the season. He’ll probably Dillon Gabriel or Jalen Hurts it out of there. Hawkins might leave too.

  • Yep. TT OC made 825k (took FAU HC for 5 year $6M). Leftwich was making $280k. I’m sure we lowballed and TT will pay him as a Broyles finalist and Texan (UTEP qb, coach, Incarnate Word, Texas State).

  • Sound familiar?

Penn State looks nothing like the wide-open, take no prisoners offense Kotelnicki built at Kansas and Buffalo and all those championship seasons in the NCAA lower division with Lance Leipold.

The Penn State offense looks like – and I know this is going to shock you – every other offense we’ve seen from Penn State under James…

  • Agree and he has been in Texas his whole (short) career, so TT might be easier for recruiting, especially if they offer more than Utah. Hope he wasn’t expecting the $1.5M Ludwig got, but likely we lowballed and offended him.

  • I hope for 8-4, but just because I have hope we can’t have that many injuries 3 years in a row. But when Whitt announces Rising is coming back for 8th year, my projection goes to 4-8. QB management has been a disaster.

  • I’m almost to the point of Green Day: Wake me up when *August* ends

  • DataUte replied to the topic Whittingham likely not retiring in the forum Football 5 months ago

Hearing Whit would walk if given $10M buyout. But let’s look at the numbers from the contract.

    Coaches out contract: $5.4M for 2025 + $5.9M for 2026 + $6.5M for 2027 = $17.8M + some incentives

Buyout if fired: $3M/yr (or $4M if last year) x 3 years left (2025, 2026, 2027) = $9M. Harlan would have to have the guts to do it (or at least threaten…[Read more]

See, when you compare the ‘bad’ wins and just the losses, it is disingenuous. You do have to give credit to beating UGA, SC, blowing out Mizzou and LSU. But yes, getting crushed by OU was not a good look (nor a close loss to Vandy, both away games).

I’m no defender, but Alabama did have quality wins to go with losses they shouldn’t have, but…[Read more]

  • Arbuckle (WSU) –> OU
Marion (UNLV) –> just waiting for MWC CCG to be done (Fri night) to announce hire (my speculation)
Leftwich (Texas St) –> possibility, but with TT feeling it out, but lose out if we are waiting on Marion (but may be accepted, just courtesy to announce to not distract UNLV)
Beck (UNM) –> one of a couple more next up

  • Isn’t signing day now hiring day? 😉

  • DataUte replied to the topic OC in the forum Football 5 months ago

I think the Texas St OC probably will move, but not necessarily to Utah (we’ll see – I think it could still be UNLV Marion). But either way, the qb probably saw the writing on the wall, had an opportunity to jump from Sun Belt to Big 12, and took the weighed decision.

  • DataUte replied to the topic CFP discussion in the forum Football 5 months ago

Ooh, a blue chip legacy automatic birth. Because if Ohio St., Alabama, OU are decent and on the fringe, they should just be in. Wait, Clemson should be on that list. And a few others… oy vey 😉

  • DataUte replied to the topic Transfers Out? in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago

I’ve been hearing this and don’t understand fully. Average roster size was somewhere around 120 (-125?) during the season but limited to 85 scholarships. It will go to 105, but all can get scholarships. So really, we need to trim, but it’ll be mostly walk-ons (who are currently 30% of D1 rosters and practice and play but don’t receive a…[Read more]
