Next season will answer a question. Was the two Pac championships by Utah an aberration and the progress Utah made in a decade less than what we saw? Or was the two seasons without the expected QB1 and injuries or shortcomings of backup QBs an aberration and the progress Utah made in a decade real? Something like trying to understand the specific…[Read more]

  • We need to understand that coaches at every level very much lean into hope when it comes to a star player like Cam. When you have a player like this you naturally chase every possibility for the return, listen to every possibility that the return can happen, and get caught up in hope. We just had a front row seat noting the difference between Cam…[Read more]

  • I think Utah and BYU donors are different with the Utah side having more competing interests on the academic side. On the Y side there seems to be a much greater need to prove they are equal or better and for some reason it spills into the sports thing. I have a split family, half and half, giving me quite an opportunity to attend games in Provo.…[Read more]

Was he living in Provo? Would not think Kalani would be his home teacher in SLC. If he was living in Provo that lean began when he moved there or did not move to SLC.

I don’t keep up with these things, but if that is the case that is sad. When I finished at the U in the 70s I knew several others that did not get accepted to graduate school at the U and bumped down to the Y for the same. I wonder if that is the case with STEM programs?

  • No reply is necessary or useful.

  • It is sad. But also realize most of these players will not go on to the NFL and college football will give them their best opportunity to make money until late in the career or maybe ever. I don’t begrudge them getting their share of what college football makes but I would like to see it done in a process that does not pay them more to be a…[Read more]

ESPN thinks everything is Eastern Time.

In the past, starters have played. The exception would be those that are nicked up with nagging injuries or in recovery from off season procedures. They usually give way soon to the 2s,3s and 4s. Players new to Utah usually play a bit more to get a read for contact with an audience I would guess. But there is a need to exercise those that are…[Read more]

Do the 3 and a half. Andre could be part time during the season, working with guards.

I would expect that for the most part the current players will test the portal to gain info to evaluate against the now unknown opportunity at Utah. I expect that some will likely choose to remain. But with the coaching turnover, it is like beginning the recruitment process except that other options will have a head start before the Utah coaching…[Read more]

  • I think we are in a better place with NIL and feel the biggest reasons for leaving Utah is to move down from the Big-12 to find more playing time or having played well can make a better team. Utah will still be a destination better than lesser conferences. One factor to consider is the likelihood that Utah will be better next year and will have…[Read more]

You noted the problem that can be brushed over. Coaches work and hope to get or develop a star player and leader like Rising that can expand the capability of the football team. And it is hard to recruit a quality backup behind a star. But when such a player develops health issues, it is natural for the team to pull for the return rather than take…[Read more]

Beck is new to me but he appears to have 2 welcomed aspects. His history seems to be tuned into making a plan around what his players can do as opposed to getting them to fit his plan. Second, he appears to be open to methods beyond the common and typical. If my impressions are right, and I don’t have much at all to go on, Beck may create an…[Read more]

Actually, we need to give Whitt more credit. The last few years have been awful, no doubt. But I stop and ask: how many coaches have better overcome the numbers of injuries at the QB position? Very few of the top teams have quality QBs in the 2 and 3 spot. Very few keep running along starting the #4 or #5. We could do better at backup QBs but we…[Read more]

  • You do both, to fail to do one or the other has problems.

  • Would not take any off the list, several others could be added.

  • Quite odd timing. I would think his next best step would be to go thru a spring practice somewhere. Did he measure the room with one day of practice? I think there are a couple of spots open in the CB room, I wonder if he saw several in front of him. I am looking forward to seeing what Cotton and Saunders will do. Does anyone know if the spring…[Read more]

Myself, I think the offense had more potential than we saw last year. I think we were trying to resolve the unknown issue to us that led to Ludwig’s departure. Beck is a fresh start. The OL has the potential of our great OLs, which is a good starting point. We do have a QB and OC going into their second year together. We don’t know IW’s eventual…[Read more]

  • Agree and disagree. The win against the Y is our biggest. They are playing well right now. However, I have always insisted the Y draws fewer sports fans, football and basketball, than Utah to their home games. I have attended dozens of both football and basketball Utah games in Provo. There are many souls at each game but few that understand the…[Read more]
