Not to mention the deals he references were partnerships whereby the schools and the networks are incentivized to maximize the short-term revenue while increasing the value of all parties. And at no point did the schools give up anything other than their ability to broadcast their games on their own.
Once people start throwing around words like…[Read more]

This is from a few years ago and is actually better than I was remembering. I thought the stadium naming rights were closer to 1 MM per at the top end.

I don’t think they’ll have a choice

I can’t think of anyone that would pay ~ 50 MM per annum (16 teams @ 3 MM per) to put their name on the conference. More likely they’d do a 10 year deal for that amount which now gets you down to 0.3 MM per team.

the problem is that naming rights packages don’t really move the needle in terms of revenue. they amount to pennies on the dollar when you compare the exposure against what the company actually pays out.

I hope your sources are correct. It’s just going to be a while before I take any injury reports at face value

The way that Arizona ended that game is a disgrace and poor sportsmanship.
I find these kinds of comments weird. If what you say about Arizona is true, shouldn’t Utah wear the same after the Charlie Vincent score with 8 seconds left against Arizona State?

From an outsider’s perspective, I can see why someone would think Utah would regress on D this year. Especially a fan of another team whose only experience with Utah’s D in 2023 was their team boat racing them.
3 starters gone to the draft
Replacing 4 starters at DB
Perceived 2 best LB’s either injured or coming off season ending injury
May only…[Read more] -

If there’s going to a super league failure, and it’s the kind of thinking that could keep Utah out, it’s that academic reputation matters more than program ability.
i.e, Vanderbilt and Stanford have great academic reputations and have been in the club for decades. They also have very little drawing power in their home markets, have student…[Read more]

Alabama plays 8 conference games against arguably the toughest conference year in, year out plus a (usually) high profile neutral-site P5 to start the season in non-con every year.
2 G5’s and an FCS? hmmm, what other schools do that? oh yeah, > 95% do that.
Put their FCS game late in the season instead of week 1, 2 or 3 like Utah so they can…[Read more]

It’s pretty tough for Alabama to schedule “up” unless you think they should have scheduled a couple of NFL teams every year.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Will our offense in 2024 look a lot like 2021? in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
sure. Different teams will use different terminology but at a base level, there are 3 running gaps to either side of the ball. The “A” gap is between the Center and Guard, “B” is Guard/Tackle and “C” is outside the tackle. So “Inside” refers to runs designed to go between the Tackles. I’ve also been part of teams that will use A,C,E to mean…[Read more]

It’s a Ludwig offense so it’s going to look the same as every year from 2019 to 2023. How effective it will be is to be determined but the overall structure has not, and will not, change.
You’ll see a lot of inside zone/power, a lot of 12 and 13 personnel, a lot of 4 receiver routes with 3 at or short of the sticks and 1 vertical option. And…[Read more]

I’ve been tracking based on the 247 Talent Composite since 2015. The higher rated team – which Utah should be against UCF – on the road historically wins only 58.8% of P5 v P5 matchups.
For reference, Utah has won 70.6% of the time as the more talented P5 team on the road (12 out of 17), but only 1 of 3 in 2023. 1 of 4 if you consider the bowl…[Read more]
