Normally I would agree with you. I really think last year opened Whitts eyes to the flaws in his offensive approach. Too complicated on offense for new transfer players and freshman. Same with the defense. The new offense is much easier to learn and lots of high schools run similar sets. Just spreading the field will open up some big plays and…[Read more]

What is your confidence level in OC Beck? 2013-2021 he has been the QB coach for Bronco at BYU then Virgina. Moved to Syracuse with Anae 1 yr as QB coach then 1 year as QB-OC. Went back with Bronco at NM as QB-OC for 1 year.

Basically a QB coach most of his career. 2 yrs as a play caller. 1 in the ACC and 1 in the MW. No Big 12 experience. With…[Read more]

  • It was so nice not hearing from them for almost 20 years. Now it’s back to 70s-80s unbearable. I’m afraid the only way to shut them up is to win. They have some deep pockets to help get them back in the national radar again so good for them. God and $$$ is hard to beat.

Minnesota that has been my complaint with Smith. Nobody seemed to have a role. Jensen will change that. Majerus was the master of giving each player a role and designing that role to fit the players strength and team success.

I had to give up my tickets because of $$$. Last two years I have no clue who some of the numbers on the field. I know I know you can get on your phone and look up the rosters. I leave my phone in the car for a good reason. I’m old school and used to buy a program.

A weird suggestion might be to put a picture, name and number on the big screen i…[Read more]

  • As a kid growing up in the sixties I was obsessed with pro football, basketball and baseball was king. With no local team to root for I had to look outside Utah. The Packers (Vince Lombardi) Yankees (Mickey Mantle) and never adopted a BB team. Choices were Celtics,Lakers or 76ers. I liked West, Chamberlain and Russell but didn’t like the teams. B…[Read more]

  • RPO quick pass depending on the defense.

  • Listening to Scalley and Whitt interviews they were disappointed in the turnover numbers. They have been working hard at practice in stripping the ball and anticipating the throws more. The Big 12 seems to allow more contact on the outside receivers. Pass rush is crucial to get turnovers. Our pass rush was subpar last year. I expect the streak to extend.

I agree. In the past Whitt has a tendency for over using a RB or QB that can wear them down early. Moss and Huntley were worn down in 2019 at the end of the season when we needed them most. Be safe with Dampier. Make sure he is not being over used in the run game early in the season. Dampier can pick his spots to make plays and rely on his legs…[Read more]

  • Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic What’s the vibe in the forum Football 1 week ago

Maybe I should have said a different vibe. Everyone talks a big story at the start. Last year I drank the koolaide and thought the vibe was great. Six games in the vibe was gone. It’s a topic question you can interpret however you feel. Do you feel a different vibe from last year? I do.

  • Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic What’s the vibe in the forum Football 1 week ago

It certainly wasn’t good the last 2 years. It’s one thing to say it’s there. Another to back it up. If you can’t back it up it wasn’t there to begin with. Last two years the vibe has been over confidence, injuries, turmoil and bad coaching. I loved the vibe going in to last season didn’t turn out. My vibe is these things have been corrected a…[Read more]

I know with fall camp going there are interviews with players and coaches daily. Where do you think we sit mentally going in to the season?

After back to back bad seasons and last year a disaster. Is the winning mentality gone? There’s only a few players left over from the 2nd Rose bowl. I’m getting a positive vibe from what I’ve seen and heard…[Read more]

Wilson got a big piece of humble pie last year. The golden child was just another player on the team. It took him a year to figure it out. It affected the locker room. It would have been much easier for him to start over somewhere (obviously he didn’t get a ton of offers)else. I give him credit for staying and taking his lumps from his teammates a…[Read more]

  • Last year I started just watching the WRs because we couldn’t complete a pass and Wilson would hold the ball too long. I rarely saw any separation with Singer Parks and the other WRs. There was a lot of contact early sometimes 5-10 yrds downfield. Arizona game every play was like the infamous holding call against BYU. Our receivers were small a…[Read more]

  • Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Throw vs run in the forum Football 1 week, 3 days ago

I agree with Rick if you’re talking NFL quality talent. I go back to the Brownie Van Galder days. Mitchell may not be elite in today’s standards. He was a pure pocket passer which the NFL and college rarely see anymore. I agree with Beach if you’re talking Utah football. Rising and BJ were elite leaders and QBs on the college level. Lots of Heism…[Read more]

Good points Beach. I think the 2019 team and the 2022 teams had a lot more talent. Moss and Thomas were big running backs and they wore the defense down. A good running game can make a QBs job much easier. Both Rising and Huntley were exceptional leaders. Dampier seems to have the same leadership qualities and is a dynamic player. I think after…[Read more]

  • I’m actually excited about the season. Dampier and the offense could be really good. I’m staying positive but have toned down my expectations. I just want the offense to play with the same intensity as the defense and it will be fun to watch win or lose.

  • Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Throw vs run in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago

I agree Uteanooga. We need to be able to throw the ball to be successful on offense. Sometimes escaping the rush from the pocket can open up some big runs as well. Teams stacking the box will have a lot of 1 on 1 downfield and a running QB can pick up 1st downs and make big plays out of nothing. I think that will be DD biggest attribute. Last year…[Read more]

How good is Dampier in the throw game? Do we come out throwing a lot in the non conference games? Keep Dampier healthy for the conference? See if the receivers are capable of getting separation in man to man? Make the defense respect the pass?

We know Dampier is a great running QB. I think a lot of the offensive success will be based on keeping…[Read more]
