I’m with you steel. Jumping ship to your rival is not a good look. Fano brothers and Daily coming over from TDS definitely lit a fire under them. Players just want to get paid more but coaches and fans take it personally. Whitt and Scalley have to be upset and highly motivated to beat them next year.

With the portal open we were better
off not going to a bowl this year. Coaches can focus on recruiting instead of a meaningless game. -
Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Fellow opinions on booing in the NIL Mercenary Era? in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Interesting thought Urban. I’ve had season tickets for 50 years and the combination of high expectations and NIL made this past season the hardest. I never booed but lots around me did and it didn’t bother me. I don’t think you should ever boo your own team but when you get paid to pay it opens you up for criticism.

Jim Vanderhoof started the topic I’m in the portal in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I have been blessed to be a part of the Utah football family. I want to thank the coaches and university for all the memorable seasons and bowl games. That being said I will be entering the portal. As a fan I’ve narrowed my choices to Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia or whoever wins the CFP. I can save $6000 a year in tickets and be a national c…[Read more]

This will be his most challenging season. He looks driven to turn things around. I like the offensive mind set. If they can patch the defense back together they should be competitive but not dominate.

Cougar fan trying to get a reaction. Kind of like poltergeist movie “they’re back”. One good season and a few big BB recruits and the jaws start yapping.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Conjecture: Why the Utah coaches may have been willing to let Tanuvasa go… in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Good post Pedro. Whitt has limited funds and has to divide the money between a lot of players. They evaluate the players and pay is based on value to the program. They can’t over pay (Rising) or someone else gets shorted. Salary caps keep NFL and NBA competitive. MLB has a similar problem with no cap. Until there is an equal playing field we w…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic What happens to Players who go to the Portal, but get no offers? in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
“All in” until someone offers more $$ or they are “blessed” to have played for such a great school but the “lord”is guiding them to new experience. I might be “all in” not renewing my season tickets I’ve had since 1973 and “blessed”to not have to not have to go to anymore 8:30 games in November.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic What happens to Players who go to the Portal, but get no offers? in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Will Snowden who trains and helps place high school talent in colleges said their offers were down 80%. Most of those will go to a juco for a year and then hope to get picked up by a D1. Nobody wants to develop a high school player as a freshman and watch them leave unless they are capable of playing right away. JUCOs will become farm teams and…[Read more]

Good points Yergie. I think money trumps all in the portal. Now even if you get a top Florida recruit if you can’t pay them they’ll go back home after a year or two if they are good.

Money not culture or development matter. Recruiting pitch “ we have more money “. Changes are coming with Alabama and Ole Miss getting left out of the CFP. Super league is inevitable.

I agree JGore but he is from their backyard (within the bubble). Pressure from the LDS fans. We lost the other American Fork kid also. They have to get those recruits to be successful. We have a much bigger recruiting footprint.

Maybe his running style fits the new offense. When is the last time we had a freshman running back contribute immediately besides #22. Hopefully Beck will adapt the offense to the RB strengths instead of their weaknesses.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Hunter Clegg flips to BYU in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Hard to tell what impact Clegg will have on both schools. I’ll take Fano and Dailey (BYU flips) over Clegg. Sounds like he wants the BYU experience. Some want to stay living in the bubble and some want to get out of the bubble. I don’t think money has anything to do with it.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Who is your dark horse pick to win the NC? in the forum Football 6 months, 4 weeks ago
If you eliminate the top 4 favorites Oregon Texas Ohio State Georgia that leaves 8 possible dark horse. I’ll go Penn State because of their schedule.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Cam Calhoun to Bama in the forum Football 7 months ago
Sad state of NIL- portal era. He would have sat the bench last year at Alabama and not gotten any game reps then transfer. He gets valuable game reps at Utah and transfers. It just goes to show players want $$$. Culture, playing time and buying all in are just words on the team bulletin board. As Tom Cruise would say “ show me the money”.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic If you entered the portal and come back, does that mean you're all-in? in the forum Football 7 months ago
It means nobody offered you more. Wilson got a wake up call that it wasn’t just Ute fans that noticed his flaws. Definition of all in = $$. All in until someone offers more then all out.
