I totally agree Dallas a piece of humble pie might stir the hornets nest. Old school coach like Whitt thrives in this position. We are in the same position Arizona was last week. Bad loss and bye.

What a great memory Miami. Wish I could have been there.

The character of the team will come out Friday night. It’s always interesting to see who steps up and makes a play. This is a talented team they just haven’t hit on all cylinders yet.

Where’s Keith Jackson when you need him. All the negative posts after one (shi*ty loss). It’s game day in two days. Let’s get the positive vibes going again. I’m excited to see how the Utes come out against ASU. We have great leadership on the team and this team is focused on making the playoffs.
Regardless of who is playing QB or any other p…[Read more]

That’s a classy post Lasso. Most BYU fans like to rub in the Cam loss and beat their own drum. Ute hub has gotten pretty ugly after the Arizona loss. It will either stir the hornets nest or we will settle in with an 8 win season. Thanks for a rational post.

Thanks for the explanation. I was more in line with data from past statistics. Odds and scoring percentages make more sense.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic ANALYTICS and WINNING …from another angle. in the forum Football 10 months, 1 week ago
They need to do analytics to see if the non analytics are working better than the analytics. Really to me it comes down to situational football. Do you have the personnel and play calling ability to succeed in certain situations.

I can’t argue with MB being our toughest back. I would rather roll the dice with him more than the others. Lohner and Stanley are dead ringers for certain plays. I don’t know the answers but after 5 games something needs to change. Maybe fake the run and let Wilson roll out with a pass run option or shotgun with Kuithe? Maybe Pepe’s version of re…[Read more]

Andy you’re not alone. I think we all are frustrated. I really thought this might be our best team and chance to make the playoffs. Cam is the key to our success and the additions of Singer and Kuithe made the offense dangerous. A freak accident (why couldn’t be the left hand) has put serious doubt on Cams ability to be 100% the rest of the yea…[Read more]

I agree yerg with Mitchell coming in on short yardage. The other team knows what’s coming. Seems faking it to Mitchell and using him as decoy might be an option equal to or better than using MB as a decoy.
I still prefer a bigger back in our case maybe a tight end in shotgun. Rising was effective faking the handoff and getting 1 or 2 yrds with h…[Read more]

I’m a little confused on analytics. Can someone explain. So if it’s fourth and 1 on the 10 yard line your chances are better to get the first down and possible touchdown than kick a field goal based on the results of thousands of similar situations. Not taking in to account personnel on either team. Is that correct?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic OnlyU in the forum Football 10 months, 1 week ago
Going by Onlyu observation Cam must have been cleared to play but unable to grip the ball properly and throw it with velocity and accuracy. He doesn’t want to hurt the team and Wilson gives them a better chance to win. Is that considered analytics or just analysis?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Will the ASU game make or break this season? in the forum Football 10 months, 1 week ago
Beating BYU would make it. Losing to ASU would break it. I guess we’ll find out if the team can respond to a bad loss at home.

They need analytics to analyze the analytics.

Game day before the Ok st game reported that Cam had a setback Wednesday at practice and was questionable to start. Remember the betting line dropped 5 points that same day (wed). YMaybe he reinjured it at practice or the setback was he couldn’t throw well enough to start. I don’t why it has to be such a secret.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Whitt's presser notes in the forum Football 10 months, 1 week ago
If you were Whitt or Cam wouldn’t you want to let everyone know the extent of the injury and any updates. Much easier than listening to your fanbase bitch all the time about it. We as fans have a right to know the status of our players. Lying about players status doesn’t win games or fans.

I know I’m old but I’m not a fan of the 8:30 games. The weather was perfect last home game and made it more bearable. 5:30-7:00 would be ideal. Come on ESPN give us an early game for once.

Backer either that loss is a blessing in disguise or we just weren’t that good to begin with. We will find out Friday. Whitt likes the back against the wall coaching. One more loss and the season is over. Can’t wait for Friday to see which team comes to play. As Elvis would say “It’s now or never”

This team was built to contend for a playoff spot. Not having Cam is a major blow to team success. What is the mindset going forward? Our backs are against the wall now. Wilson has proven he can win.
Hope week in and week out for Cams return or go all out with whoever is QB and open up the offense and defense. Play with a chip on your shoulder…[Read more]
