KeymasterOldAsDirtUte: For youtube videos don’t use the link dialog. Just paste the URL on a single line and the video will preview here inline, instead of making the user go to youtube to watch it.

ParticipantFrom the article: “No. 25 Utah (+59): Our voters are clearly expecting a return to form for Kyle Whittingham’s program, bouncing back from last year’s 5-7 showing to be right back in the mix for the Big 12 title. Some more consistent availability at the quarterback position will be a welcome start, with Devon Dampier arriving from New Mexico to be the centerpiece of a re-tooled offense.”

KeymasterFirst… it’s the offseason. Second… There’s a ton of great content here. Just ignore the TSPP category and you’ll probably filter out most the stuff you don’t want. It’s really unfortunate that we are in a conference with “them” again. Their fan’s childish CB mentality brings everyone around them down to a junior high cat fight level. I was so happy to ignore them and pretend they didn’t exist when we were in the Pac-12.

ParticipantWinning cures a lot of ills…. always does. I’m cautiously optimistic about this year and hoping the team is relatively injury free and the O-Line is cracked up to be the force everyone expects it to be. It’s as close to an NFL line as Utah has ever had, that means trouble for the opposition.

ParticipantIf I had to guess at one cause, I’d say it’s the successful year they had down south.
Our 2023 was disappointing, but we were still the best team in the state. In 2024, we were not. That’s probably raised some blood pressure around here.

ParticipantAwesome post! Don’t care what anyone says! I would take Grit over love in my football coach any day. His days are numbered but it’s been a great ride!

ParticipantIt has indeed been a great ride. I love what KW has done for Utah football. In fact, no one has done more for Utah football than Whitt. However, there comes a time when you need to move on and hand things over to the new guy. In this case, he will be handing it over to the guy he mentored and taught.
I hope that this is KW’s last season. I want to see what Scalley can do. I know that many disagree, and that’s cool. I love KW, but IMO we need to move on.
Go Utes!!!

ParticipantThanks for sharing. Of all of the interviews, I think my favorite take was Kenny Dillingham’s. Everybody equates Kyle with toughness and discipline and family and none of those are wrong. Dillingham is the first person I can remember though who measured Kyle’s success by the number of years that Utah could realistically win the conference. It’s such an underrated part of being an Utah fan over the last 10+ years. Losing is really hard when expectations are that high, but a fanbase with hope is a dangerous animal. It is engaged, and hungry, on a Saturday night, is electric. It’s pretty awesome to be a contender every year.

ParticipantHonestly, I’m going to tell you what I told BYU football fans for so many years when they were fixated on their success in the 1970s, 80s and a chunk of the 90s: I don’t care. It’s not relevant to me what a program did 30 years ago. If you have to reach back that far, you’re losing the argument and you look desperate doing it.
When was the last time Utah basketball finished ranked?
When was the last time Utah basketball made the NCAA Tournament?
When was the last time Utah basketball won a NCAA Tournament game?
When was the last time Utah advanced beyond the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament?
When was the last time Utah basketball won a conference championship – either regular season or tournament?
This isn’t about BYU. That’s the weird thing here. You all focus in on BYU and I mentioned them in passing along with other programs. This is about Utah and their standing in the college basketball world.
It really does show that some Utah fans have an inferiority complex when it comes to BYU basketball – just like a lot of BYU fans do with football. That explains why they have to steal from the Cougar playbook and throw around stats that were largely built up 30+ years ago to prove their point.
