DataUte replied to the topic New Pope is American in the forum Misc 3 months, 1 week ago
Not sure, but Pope Francis didn’t ever go back to visit Argentina (did visit other SA countries). I think Leo XIV has been in Rome for a while. Seems like he wasn’t generally on the list of top ‘favorites’ but is centrist, maybe a compromise between the progressives that would take Francis’ path even further vs the conservatives who want to take…[Read more]

I guess good he thanked Ludwig for what he taught him, but that’s the only person named. Interesting. Some weird silence until this point, but maybe because he was getting other opinions on the hand. Must of jacked it up good or it healed weird or had a lot of scar tissue.

DataUte replied to the topic Coach McBride in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
I was going to say this as well. McBride was probably joking with that one. And honestly, even though they handed him a bag of money, his fiancé (proposed in Jan, might be his wife now?) is there and I think there’s just some ‘ease’. Sure, he says it was God, but I am fine with that. Remember, these kids are in their early 20s and still figuring…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Help me feel good about 2025 football in the forum Football 3 months, 4 weeks ago
Agree and disagree. Injury is always a huge factor, especially to starters. But ESPECIALLY for QB1 with Ludwig. QB2 was never prepared. There will always be a dropoff and QB2 getting up to speed, but with Ludwig’s ‘complicated’ system (Rose still hadn’t picked it up in 2 years?!), they had to go so vanilla, it was easy to defend. So, yes, it…[Read more]

To feel better, know that:
1) We aren’t relying on Cam Rising and Cam Rising alone like the last 2 years
2) We have an OC that doesn’t require 2 years just to start understanding the systemBeck and a ‘simpler’ offense that can adapt if injuries do occur (knock on wood, hopefully not) and a still very good defense and we can play a well-rounded…[Read more]

Buyouts in NIL contracts
Restricting transferring (they come up with some reason – family issue, coach abusive, mental health) seems to be a no go with a lawsuit. Although SEC requires year off if you change SEC school – so not sure how that is enforceable. I think 1 transfer ‘free’ OR if coach leaves.
1 transfer window, not 2. Timing also is…[Read more]

I believe he enrolled in Jan and was around, but I guess he saw how he was at best 5th. Maybe had to reset his expectations or find a better fit.

Agree, you almost have to put OL and RB together for ‘run game’ rather than separate even though OL also has pass protection. It’s going to be interesting with Dampier as he will also rely on OL blocking when he scrambles or options to run. I would expect that we will have to weather a few more INT than before (and Whitt will have to swallow his…[Read more]

I guess it will be a reconstruction and not a lift job…
They really do need a more modern (smaller, like 9k for bball, but 15k at gymnastics is great) arena with more boxes and better experience. They are still considering options, but wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up as part of the downtown development. I hope it stays on campus, but not…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic Luke Bottari returns to Utah as offensive graduate assistant in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
The old adage ‘if you can’t do, coach’. His size probably limited him and buried on the depth chart led to fewer reps to get better. As a grad assistant, not like he’s a lead/position coach, but will be, well, assisting and learning. Could end up working up through college ranks over the years or go high school – but creating future options for…[Read more]

I don’t disagree for basketball (men’s or women’s), but what do you do about gymnastics pulling 15k into the stadium? I haven’t been around the campus in a while, but seems like there’s more non-sports events at Kingsbury than JHC (concerts, etc.). For graduations, a smaller arena is fine as only 1/2 of the JHC is used. I would assume they’d keep…[Read more]

DataUte replied to the topic 2025 Schedule released…finally in the forum Football 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Especially in a year with 5 Big 12 home games. I guess with home-and-home swaps, it just works out some years that we need to be away for 2 non-conference games. To have 7 home games, you generally have to be paying the other team or getting 2 patsies. But we generally have tried 1 patsy (Cal Poly), 1 G5 (Wyoming), 1 P4 (UCLA).

Team (worry 1-10, 10 being worried they blow us out)
@UCLA (6) – solid team, but it’s going to be more about if we get the offense clicking. we typically have slow starts and it is on the road to start the season. will be a REALLY good indicator of how the season will go
Cal Poly (1) – blowout, get the 2nd team in
@Wyo (2) – mostly worried about…[Read more] -

Wyoming is just 2 hours up the road from me, so thinking about it, but already have a conflict that I have to consider.
Might go to Baylor as my Senior is planning on moving to San Antonio to work and live with bio-family for a little bit and could be a good time to visit and see how things are going/move her back home lol.

There are only a few protected rivalries and Big 12 has always spread them out rather than put them all on rivalry weekend to try to get more viewership.

DataUte replied to the topic Mammoth, Outlaws, or HC… what you like? in the forum NHL 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Utah White Outs (since Blizzard didn’t work to kind of match mountain hockey teams – Avalanche). Utah Squals. Utah Polar Vortex (or Vortices for plural). Utah Inversion Layer. Utah Raspberry Milkshakes. Utah Swag brought to you by Swig.
I’m guessing Mammoth wins out. Hopefully they have a secondary mascot Sid, chasing a nut.

Freaking Big 12 takes soooo long. Last 2 years has been the last Tuesday of Jan, but nothing, not even an estimate of when it comes out. ACC came out this week. SEC and B1G put theirs out more than a month ago on Dec 11. Way to show how bad of a conference we are.
