You have to wonder how the Utes would have looked if he had a bit more game time during the season. His running ability really threw Iowa State for a loop during the short time that he was in the game.

Interesting news. Not sure how to feel about this. The guy was with the program for years and was essentially a practice squad QB the entire time. Yes he started a couple times but as the 5th option. What makes anyone think he’s qualified to coach our starters if he wasn’t good enough to start himself?

The old adage ‘if you can’t do, coach’. His size probably limited him and buried on the depth chart led to fewer reps to get better. As a grad assistant, not like he’s a lead/position coach, but will be, well, assisting and learning. Could end up working up through college ranks over the years or go high school – but creating future options for himself. I don’t get why everyone wants stars to be the coaches – some of the best coaches were not that great in college (and some didn’t even play). Being a star doesn’t necessarily translate to being a good coach because ‘they’ve been there’.

Lol, Lincoln Riley was a walk-on (IE, just as qualified as Bottari) who didn’t play a down for Leach (who also never played football) at tech and has coached 3 of the last 7 Heisman winners…

I mean, Kevin O’Connell was an absolute scrub as a professional but he’s one of the best offensive coaches in the NFL right now. Historically speaking, it’s usually the guys who understand the game really well but just don’t have the physical talent to excel that become great coaches. Hell, Sean McVay is another example.

Good for Luke! I thought he was great and showed a lot of grit in the few chances he had quarterbacking the Utes. He will have a chance starting as a Grad assistant to develope and I hope for him he has a good career in coaching.
