Was a heck of a coach and seemed like a decent dude.

Yeah, this morning.  What’s cool was the friendship he and Mac had over the years.  Lavell knew how to attract and cultivate coaches.  His legacy is huge and I thank the Ute fans for being classy and respectful on his death.  I think both Cougar and Ute faithful can recognize a great man and coach.  All the best to Lavell’s family.

Rivalry aside, I always really liked Lavell. Seemed like a solid guy.

      RIP Coach.

Agreed I heard some of the Lavell and Mac show on the weekends and it was the best.

He’s the one thing about them that I’ll never desicrate. Coach Edwards was one of the all time greats.

LaVell forced the U to stop being a dumpster fire program. He was truly great. RIP

RIP LaVell. Good dude. It seems counter-intuitive but Utah Football would not be where it is today without him.

I don’t hate LaVell…not at all. But, I’m not going to sit here and sing his praises with his RUTS mentality. There is a reason why most MWC teams hate BYU and he was a big part of that.

LaVell did everything he could to bury Utah. He was classless in a lot of games, including putting his starter back in an blowout game at the end.

Yeah, because of LaVell’s ridiculous actions, Utah was able to fight back and he helped Utah become what Utah is today, but I’m not going to pretend the man was a saint as a coach (although he was much more likeable the last few years).

He was a great coach, who did what he had to do to get BYU relevant and that was RUTS and as much as BYU fans like to say that we are trying to make BYU irrelevant right now, LaVell tried to bury us.

Growing up in the 80’s as a Ute diehard I hated Coach Edwards. I hated him because Utah and the other WAC schools were not good enough to stop him from RUTS. That’s not his fault we couldn’t defend. I would much rather get the holy hell kicked out of me than have a team show pitty and let up. I just wish Whitt felt the same. How many times has Utah been in complete control only to take their foot off the opponents throat ? Last years Oregon game has been the only exception.

Today I have nothing but respect for the way Coach Edwards coached. His job was to bury his opponent. I have zero hard feelings.

RIP to a great man and coach.

No offense but St Edwards went well beyond your summary. Inserting a QB after RUTS to break a NCAA record in the final minute of a game is classless.

I refuse to heap praise on a coach that behaved the way Edwards did. Wayne Howard responded by increasing Utah’s focus to the then limited rivalry. If we pulled the same stuff LE did the Zoobs would be suicidal.

Lavell was a great coach and one of the few people tied to BYU that I could stand to listen to. His success at BYU was a big contribution to Utah Football finally working to get their s**t together in the 90’s.

RIP, coach Edwards. You’ll be missed.

Indeed a great coach and man by all accounts. A true giant not only in Utah but in the history of college sports, universally respected.

Ironic that UFN and Lavell Edwards basically died on the same day.
