I’ve got a Whirlpool front load washer, about 5 years old. Anytime I wash a load with certain items (mainly towels) it bounces around like crazy, causing damage to the wall and potentially the floor.

I’ve tried lightening the loads but it’s getting ridiculous that I can’t wash a full load on a newish washer. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this or maybe parts that would need to be replaced? TIA

Physics is a problem for frontloaders.  The drum is held in place by springs and I suspect one of them is broken so you’re not getting the dampening you need.

We have a Whirlpool frontloader, about 10 years old.  Sometimes, and increasingly so, it refuses to start because it can’t control the door lock.  The accepted solution, and I kid you not, is to give it a good whack with your fist in a specific location while pressing the start button.

We are not going to buy any more Whirlpool frontloaders.

I love that we’re talking washing machines on the fan board. Our Samsung front loaders started doing that after a few years. We got rid of them and went LG top loads and never looked back.

On another topic. I’m getting dishpan hands. Any suggestions?

I feel your pain.  My old front loader used to shake the whole house.  Be careful about the way it’s loaded…try to lay stuff flat-ish and put it in a couple items at a time (especially if heavy) and not crumpled or wadded up.  Also if the washer is on a pedestal, that can make things much worse.

Three words is all you ever need to know when you’re talking about appliances:

      Maytag, baby… Maytag.

I am a die-hard DIYer on appliances.   I have an old top loader (19 year old Maytag running smoothly), so no experience with the front loaders but here is a site I have used to help with diagnosis, repair tips and parts:

Same here, a DIYer on appliance repair and it’s easy. 20 year old Maytag washer and dryer. In the last year or so, replaced motor on dryer. Also rollers and a burner ignitor. Cheap to do it yourself and there are How to videos all over the net.
