Nike released a Durant ad right after the Warriors win:
Congrats to the guy and the Warriors. But I gotta say, to me, Durant leaving OKC to join an already-championship caliber team and then winning a championship proves very little to me other than being a savvy free agent. I felt the same way about Lebron’s rings in Miami. Lebron’s rings in Cleveland, however… now that is a crowd silencer. If Durant really wants to silence his critics and prove that he is amazing, go back to OKC or some other team that is not already championship-ready, help that team progress, then win a championship. Then you silence your critics. IMO, players just hopping to a great team in hopes of getting a ring represents an unfortunate trend (that has been going on for a long time, but seems to be getting worse). It now seeps through all levels down to little league club teams. I get it. But I am not a fan.
So Golden State won it then?
So Golden State won it then?
My response…
Two of Lebrons titles were choke jobs by the opponents. SA a few years ago and GS last year. He is a helluva player though.
My impression of Durant is that he isn’t out to “silence critics” or prove anything. He’s playing for the love of the game, and he envied the comraderie that Golden State had vs OKC. He wanted a change of scenery, and he was looking to a place where he would have fun playing the game (of course, winning helps with that). I’m not a huge NBA fan, but from what I’ve watched and read, I really think Durant takes more flak for the move than is deserved. Westbrook is a fantastic player, but he also seems like an @**hole to play beside. Golden State seems to have the opposite in terms of team atmosphere.
