recruiting, despite Utah’s recruiting ranking trending upward year over year. Now, Utah lands one of the top QB recruits nationwide and some are bummed because Cameron Latu is going to go sit the bench at Alabama ala Cooper Bateman.

We will never sign all in state kids nor should we.  We will always lose some and that’s to be expected.  But, yesterday six Utah kids went to P5 schools.  Not one went to Utah.  These are all very good players.  I would have been happy to get two of those or 33 %.  When you have kids in your own back yard that have good potential, we need to land some of those to be be able to win the PAC 12 IMO.  Utah likely recruited all of these kids.

Many P5 schools landed the vast majority of their recruits yesterday; i.e UW and WSU.  We did not.  Will we end up okay?  Possibly.  But, I think there is some reason for concern.  I hope things turn around in February.

As one that usually goes against most of the group think who cares?  Honestly recruiting is such a crap shoot.  Oh man thanks for poiinting out that Utah didn’t get some ofthe top talent in a six win season..  BIG SUPRISE !

          Thanks Captain.

Just curious, what in-state recruit has gone on to be the deciding factor in a team winning their conference?

Because our two highest rated in state kids are going on missions and won’t sign an LOI.

And right now for Rivals 2018 Utah is 3.2. Go Utes!

That chart doesn’t mean much because it uses the number of recruits also and is not reflective of the talent.

It does mean something…it just doesn’t mean everything.

We all know Utah doesn’t sign large classes because of our unique RM situation, and that hurts our recruiting class rankings as compared to other schools. So the graph doesn’t mean much in terms of absolute values. But it IS useful in comparing Utah’s yearly classes against each other, since the RM situation is pretty much constant from year to year. So the trend is meaningful, even though the values aren’t.

You do understand that chart means Utah’s class rankings are getting better each year, right?

A line between two points, I see. But to me it looks like it has taken 7 years to get back to where the Utes were after the Sugar Bowl, despite the jump in conference.

I say there is nothing, absolutely nothing, like winning to attract talent. Even home-grown talent, a handful of whom went to other P5 schools. Talent wants to play for winners. While Utah has won, without question, it has been a long and hard slog and no real return to the mid-2000s. It really has been a long slog.

Every year, Utah is on the verge, again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the Utes; I began school at Utah in 1969 and left finally a few degrees later in 1980. I’ve seen the worst of times on campus.

The class is great. I expect it to get better. I expect the 2018 Utes to be better than this season. I expect once Utah finds an offense that works well, for everything to improve on the recruiting front, including instate players who are awesome, who are passionate to play for the Utes.

The problem is we are losing kids to some higher profile programs as recruiting has become more thorough. We lost them to Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and USC. Meanwhile we drew a 4 star out of California and some higher rated kids out of Texas and Florida.
