We seem to not game plan against our opponents vulnerabilities.

If you’re facing a light, fast front seven, steamroll them. Utes have mass on the OL and we just don’t use it. Quick hit the middle of the line, again and again and again. Wear them down. Step on their throats. Stanford does this very effectively. We have three work horses in the backfield and speed to complement them. Instead, we dance and prance and f**k around. Smash them in the mouth. We have the size and physicality to do this, but we don’t. Inexplicable.

      You are right.

BUT, it is NIU with UW the week after.

Earlier last week, Whitt slipped up and talked about Washington.

I don’t think anyone on Utah’s Staff prepared for NIU and it showed. But I’m ok with it.

Lets go beat UW now. We’ve been prepping for this game since Spring ball ended.

We just seem to continue to play into the hands of the Defense. Instead of exploiting our strength against their weaknesses, it seems that we throw our weakness into their strength, and that doesn’t make any damn sense.

But, what do I know?  I’m just the idiot on the 20th row.

        😒

So I watched the offense a little more last night on my DVR.

Oline. Good hell they have a lot to fix. But I remember thinking this same thing last season. Which if you remember Harding did make adjustments/improvements. I agree smaller MAC team line up and pound them. Utah did this with power run plays. The pass protection was not good the Niu players got low and used good technique at times. I am seeing a lot of problems that were prevalent in the bowl game. Which reflecting on this I think it might be a preparation issue. I am sort of swaying into the game prep was garbage for this game. That isn’t a positive SPIN by me at all. That is more of wtf I guess the whole one game at a time is just that total s**t.

Playcalling: Not a fan this game felt like a throw darts up and see what sticks.  When it became a real possibility they would lose Chase slammed the door shut. But good hell offensively the playcalling just made no sense to me. The personale didn’t make sense at times. Boyd and Dixon seem like the best post receivers. Covey who I thought was God initially was just ok. Enis I didn’t see him all game. Nacua and Simpkins at this point I could just live without at all.  Not a fan of either of them.

Huntley: I don’t know about improvement at all. He hasn’t got much help that is for sure. I go back to times when it was on him to make a play and he really didn’t. He had a few good reads early. He had some bad luck with lazy drops poor officiating early with throw to Jake Jackson. I wanted more throws to the TEs. I just don’t think TT is doing him any favors yet. His under center work is the best thing I see personally. Those Hail Mary attempts seemed like the first time he had ever done that ever. Like including grade school on the playground with your friends. Just lost on that end to half. NIU though credit here needs to be given they did watch their film on him.

Just my thoughts now after watching the game with less emotion.

In regards to Simpkins and Nacua, did one of these two have drops again last week? I can’t remember. Whitt just said in his Monday interview that we’d see some playing time get taken away for a trend in drops. I’m thinking it’s one of the 2, but maybe both? From what I remeber Nacua had a good game with his opportunity but maybe I missed a drop or 2.

Nacua had bad drops in both games. He looked overall better against No. Ill, but still unacceptable.

NIU’s defensive line reminded me of Utah’s 2008 defensive line against Alabama. Utah really struggled with NIU’s quickness. Was that the issue the OL had with Weber as well? It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about. Are there a lot of pure speed rusher’s in the Pac-12? I haven’t looked closely at other DL’s so I don’t know. Anyone similar to Hercules Mata’afa on any team? Those are the teams I’m worried about at this point. I think the OL will end up gelling like last year, we’ll just see how long it takes them. I’m still holding out hope. I saw some good DL play from Washington in the Auburn game, but no big speed rushers.
