This OC search and the difficulties of finding a flashy name should be telling us something.  Those that want to get rid  of Whit should take note.  Regardless of how you slice it or what we do on the field, Utah (the State) is a harder sell than most of us are willing to admit.

We  know Whit went after Rich Rod, we know he’s talke to Sark.  One took a different offer and so far no word that I’m aware of on the other.

The U would be a prime job for an OC.  The talent is there, the defense is there, the support is there.  Folks should be jumping at this.

We experienced this same thing when Maji left.  The BBall program has not met that level of success since.

Whit is a Utah guy and outside of Utah, he is considered to be one of the best in the country.  Yet not all of us can see that.  Replacing him will be near impossible and we will experience the same struggles that we are again experiencing in luring an OC here.

I disagree. I think the most simple explanation is typically the right one. And in this case, I believe the reason we’re not able to land Rich Rod and Sark is because we can’t pay the kind of money that they’re able to get from other places. It’s just economics. Sometimes it works in your favor, and other times it doesn’t. We’ve landed big name coordinators here in the past. Dennis Erickson and Norm Chow come to mind. Even Dave Christensen (AT THE TIME) was a pretty esteemed offensive coordinator.

Sure there are parts of Utah that are quite weird. But I’d argue that Salt Lake City is more “normal” than it is weird, and most people that come to visit here have far more positive to say than negative. I’m convinced that the “Utah is weird” notion is perpetuated by our own damn fans FAR MORE than by any other group.

I travel out of state a lot and have freinds in several states stretching from Florida to Cali.  All non mormons and all have asked me about polygammy, horns (seriously) and how the church controls our voting – one even asked if we get to vote ourselves.  I would suggest that they are how the outside world see’s us.  In fact, one player last fall tweeted that Utah isn’t all what people think it is, it’s actually a pretty cool place.  Why would he have felt the need to post that if he didn’t have a preexisting notion of how weird it is?  Just my two cents

Nailed it. non mormons outside of Utah DO think people of the “land of Zion” are weird.  They like to visit Utah to ski and find it very pretty but  the culture is “odd” once they leave the ski resorts and tread into the burbs or rural Utah.

The Utes really, really need more culture diversity on the coaching staff.  Urban and Majerus where great for Utah not just because they where elite coaches but because they brought an “outsider” culture to the team…which is much more relatable to a lager universe of prospects.

Oh good lord, you’re the one that calls Utah weird and that’s why Daniels left and a bunch of other stuff. This is exactly what Pedro is saying, people perceive Utah was weird and bad. Please, go back to provostan.

Oh I agree the outside world preceives Utah as weird. The question is what the Utes want to do about it. Create a culture that isn’t wierd and the players will follow.

Picking up a rodeo cowboy LB coach from Idaho and possibly an OC from Ogden..does nothing to address the issue.
