So? Every school should do it. Bowl games are essentially exhibitions. There’s real monetary risk to many of these athletes. That’s the whole point of insurance.

The real question should be why Colorado did it, not why other teams aren’t doing it, because it makes zero sense to outlay a large amount of cash to cover two players, to the detriment of the rest of the team, to play in an exhibition game. According to Colorado’s AD, this was Deion Sanders’ idea, though the school was the one that covered the…[Read more]

Yet another sign the college football apocalypse is upon us. With Ward’s decision yesterday, it was abundantly clear what his priorities were. The below order of his priorities are not an accusation, it is a statement of fact based on his choice.
1. Gain an individual record.
2. Preserve health for draft.
3. Help team win game (this is assumed,…[Read more] -

In football load management is obligate. The games are much more rough but they only play a fraction of the number of games in total. Putting in 2nd teamers late in the game and holding people out in questionable injury status is effectively load management in football. You also can’t afford to sacrifice games in college football. Every loss can…[Read more]

But did you hear how/why they did it? Colorado took out a massive injury insurance policy on both of them to insure that if they did get injured, they would receive a settlement commensurate to what their projected earnings would be as NFL draft picks. That’s the only reason either of those guys played last night.

I agree with you in the sense that all bowl games not part of the CFP are irrelevant. However, I sincerely doubt that they’ll be going away for a number of reasons, the most important one being the money that the schools receive for taking part in what are essentially meaningless exhibition games.
The networks need a lot of sports content during…[Read more]

While Cam Ward did that, I give you Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter from Colorado who are both first round picks and played the whole game despite the current climate.

We’re seeing an unprecedented number of starters just quitting teams or sitting during the post season because bowls “don’t matter” this has been a growing issue of course. But now we see a whole new level of manipulation and cynicism.
Last night’s Pop Tart bowl (and no I’ll never recover from the fact that name exists) was an amazing example.…[Read more]

At this point, how could you not just laugh at all of this? This portal/NIL stuff jumped the shark so long ago. If I have to read another 18 year old make a formal announcement like he is giving a f***ing state of the union address I’m going to blow a gasket.
“To my friends, family, administration and community members, I’d like to first of al…[Read more]

You keep getting downvoted because you don’t understand Capitalism but blame it for everything you don’t like. “Unfettered Capitalism” is just Capitalism with an unnecessary adjective in front of it to make the speaker sound impressive. Just like Raw Milk is Milk.
Sports leagues by definition are Marxist, not Capitalist. Equal distribution…[Read more]

But do you think that universities will go along with what all of that entails? I’m not so sure. Universities weren’t created to provide entertainment for bystanders and employment for athletes, which is what all of this is. It’s a textbook case of mission creep and the tail wagging the dog. Personally, I believe that if things go that route,…[Read more]

It is not unfettered capitalism. If it was that, you’d already have a College Football League of 32 teams and everybody else pounding sand. Do you think if it was unfettered capitalism both the B1G and SEC would be filled with legacy bottom feeders like Miss St, Purdue, Vandy, Iowa, etc…? I think not…

I keep saying this and I keep getting downvoted, but this is unregulated capitalism.
Extract all value until it’s worthless then move on from the wreckage.
You need regulations to have something sustainable. You can’t just let corps (colleges/NIL’s) run free with no restraint.
This is such a great real world experiment of unfettered capitalism.

I think a matter of time before CFB’s NIL will burst into a thousand pieces. I don’t think it is sustainable long term as we are seeing negative affects it is having on college sports in general. NIL is destroying the integrity, ethics, and moral, specifically with football and spilling into basketball.
Significant effects could be felt if and…[Read more]
