In late October – I felt that the team morale was at an all-time low and that we would lose many players to the portal. My thoughts were right. Losing Calhoun is the biggest loss so far IMO.
We do not have the capability to do what Colorado did. Coach Prime was a huge draw for obvious reasons. He could turn the entire team over in two…[Read more]

This is way painful. Especially considering how he led us on (the fans, the team, etc.). Hopefully college sports changes something sooner rather than later. It’s pro sports but w/out salary caps, contracts, or a draft. Hard enough for small markets to compete in pro sports w/ those things in place.

Definitely a turn-off to college athletics and the direction it’s heading.

I’ve made my point quite clear. You can go re-read it, or look for similar threads regarding this very subject to get it. At this point, it’s just talking in circles.

Just him saying they “offered”
It’s basically recruitment. -

Agree 100%. I believe it’s seriously hurting the sport. The NCAA doesn’t have the guts to do anything and no one else seems to either, so here we are in this mess that we can’t backtrack on.

Based on his history on here, Stone is obviously a Ute fan.
I’m confused, what standard are you saying BYU should live up to? You’re saying that b/c they’re a religious organization, they should live by the following standards?
– That they shouldn’t allow their athletes to receive NIL deals from third party donors?
– And that, by allowing…[Read more] -

Totally agree that NIL is a joke. I am no defender of the system. It is laughable that it is under the auspices of name, image, likeness–none of the money being paid is actually tied to that. Like you said, we are not seeing ads with these players. It is straight up bribes. I think it has made a mess of things. I would rather see players become…[Read more]

Far be it from me to defend BYU on this issue, but I am happy to defend the Church as an Institution. The claim here is that there is hypocrisy in saying they don’t want BYU to be in a Pay for Play situation. I would actually argue, the current AJ signing and NIL is actually one of the few current exceptions where we have an honest-to-goodness NIL…[Read more]

Not trying to be dramatic but this encapsulates everything about college football that is pushing me away from the sport. It’s getting ridiculous, yet no one is implementing boundaries on these things. Now the main focus is on $$$, whether that be transfers, conference realignment, etc etc.

I saw that today too. I’m hoping we start hearing of more coming for a visit or getting offered soon! Lots of guys jumping in the transfer portal.

Frankly, it’s a huge turnoff when all this stuff happens and fans are still expected to attend games, buy merchandise, donate to the collective, travel for bowls, etc etc while everyone else is concerned just about the money.

And same with players.
Agreed.
I just went to Calhoun’s X profile where he announced he’s going to the portal, and I was so tempted to respond something like “I wish you nothing, you traitor.”
But I didn’t. I won’t say anything.
But I was tempted. Almost did.
I think many fans have had an attitude of “don’t talk bad to players even if…[Read more]

Same with me.
When I walked out of the Iowa State game, before I got to my car, I heard THREE separate discussions by Ute fans saying they are considering not renewing their season tickets for next season.
At this time, I am leaning on renewing my season tickets and coming back for one more season, but if my interest falls off, I might just…[Read more]

This is something that really, really, really bothers me and we’ve seen it a lot the last few weeks with Whittingham. The whole “He has done so much that he should be able to retire/leave when he wants to!” argument.
I disagree completely. Why are fans the only people asked to be loyal to sports teams? Why is it, “I was born a Philadelphia fan,…[Read more]

I’m actually not though. I’m saying that a religious institution’s primary functions are to obviously educate, but to also spread the faith. This just looks completely bad for a religious institution regardless of whether they are using private donors providing the funds or not, for the reasons I pointed out.
You can hold them to the standard…[Read more]
