I’m the furthest thing from a football expert, but everything about Rose looked bigger/stronger/faster. That’s obviously only a small part of the equation, but his passes had more zip and he didn’t look physically overmatched by everyone around him.

Maybe both of those guys leave, but I’d bet there is a more seasoned qb to be had in the…[Read more]

“The defense clearly has not quit. Scalley has clearly kept them engaged and motivated.“ Another great sign for our future HC.

  • Well, here’s the other thing…the defense has kept us in the game but we’ve been playing cupcakes. Also, keep in mind that last night’s game was only in doubt because Houston shot itself in the foot TWICE within the shadow of the goal line. They get any points out of those drives and the game is over sooner rather than later. I additionally…[Read more]

  • It’s really shocking to see how the team has regressed in so many phases of the game just in the last two seasons.

  • Our defense is keeping us in games, giving us opportunities to win every game.

The defense clearly has not quit. Scalley has clearly kept them engaged and motivated.

If we think we’re embarrassed now, we lose the defense, this will get blowout loss ugly. A blowout loss might count the same as a close loss, but if we lose the team completely w…[Read more]

Is a lefty. Give him first team reps and two weeks for the O-line to prep for blocking that protection and we’ll catch TSPP flat footed for a blowout win 😬

  • 2017 was also a completely new OLine after the 2016 crew all went to the league.

  • These aren’t linear degradations:

P – has been subpar since Wishnowsky left
K – has been subpar since Gay left
LB – has underperformed since Lloyd/Sewell
DB – has seen flashes of brilliance but not up to the standard of the 2019 squad that had 4 drafted. Other than Phillips/Bishop who would have been anything more than a backup on the best Utah…[Read more]

  • Whittingham should have gone to the portal and brought in another QB as insurance for an injury prone Rising.

Some of us have been saying that statement the moment we knew the extent of Rising’s injury in July 2023. It’s also something that will be printed in Whitt’s tombstone should he not be able to right this ship.

  • Wilson is playing like most freshman play. He has some talent but his size is a negative. He tries to make what I call “High school” plays. By that I mean that in HS the best player on the field is normally the QB. He can do things that he cannot do at the next level. The same from college to the NFL. He will have to learn what he cannot do.…[Read more]

  • The way I see it, here’s where the heartburn with Harlan comes in:
    1. It was Harlan that gave Whitt the massive extension that Utah is on the hook for.
    2. Harlan flubbed the Smith hire and stayed too long with Farden. Given that, it’s hard to see him being capable of selecting the next football coach if Scalley isn’t the automatic hire.

  • You’re right…I’m sure he’s got some upside but his play and skillset scream “G5” at me. Yeah, sure, he had moments early on this season and at Copper Canyon, but once the book on him was printed he hasn’t been able to play well consistently. I mean, what’s the difference between him and Maddux Madsen at BSU, other than Madsen is providing…[Read more]

    You’re kidding, right?

  • Maybe in times past I would agree with you…but, right now, NIL is king…just like tons of people stay in jobs that they despise because of the money, so you’ll see players stay at programs because of the money they’re making. Now, if some program offers a disgruntled player more money and perks, I could definitely see that player leaving for…[Read more]

  • If anything, this season has lowered Wilson’s value. His warts have been put on display for everyone to see. No top program is going hard after an undersized kid who can’t cope with pressure in his face.

  • It really comes down to whether or not anyone thinks Whitt is capable of calling it a day before there is no shred of doubt left that someone else would be better running the program.

I’m of the opinion that he should get to finish out his current contract if, and only if, he is willing to completely overhaul his staff. I just can’t see him…[Read more]

The Utah coaching staff making puzzling quarterback decisions? No way!!!!! 😝

  • The Miami Ute replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Eagle, I have no idea. I was also puzzled as to why the defense didn’t dare Houston to beat them through the air once they got the ball back. The Cougars ran eight plays, all runs, before they kicked the game-winning FG.

  • That’s the big news? That Scalley’s rolodex is so small he’s contacting local coaches to be on his staff? How can people think he’s not going to be Whitt 2.0 if he isn’t trying to find the best available assistants to fulfill his vision for the program

  • highlandute7 replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 7 months, 4 weeks ago

I thought Rose looked confident and that he had control of the offense but what can you expect from him when that was his first live game action since he has been at Utah.

Take it for what its worth but I have heard that Huard is killing it in practice as scout team qb but doesn’t sound like the coaches even are considering him to play, which is…[Read more]
