Let’s just go full Wisconsin/Stanford/Iowa. This might be unpopular because it’s the opposite of flashy, but hear me and the caffeine in my system out: great offensive line, with a fullback (ideally from a dairy farm in Idaho or Iowa, wrestling background is a bonus), two tight ends with one being a glorified receiver, and we just live in 2nd and…[Read more]

Of all the ways for the season to be easier for Utah, this one sucks the most. I am very much not a lawyer, and I’ve been trying to avoid touching this with a ten foot pole, but both outcomes appear to suck quite a bit.

In the era of Ryan Smith vs Phil Knight for the wunderkind, all we can really do is buy a jersey from the team store and make the occasional donation.

He’s got quite the offer list. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him crack the rotation sooner rather than later.

UCLA defensive line seems like it’ll be mostly new faces, but talented new faces. Couple that with the Nico acquisition and all of a sudden the first game of the year might tell us a lot about where positions really stand.

I think it’s important to know what you can influence versus what you cant influence. At least IMO. Show up with friends and family, have a good time, enjoy the food, etc. Whoever you showed up as won’t be changed following the game because of the outcome. The transfer portal doesn’t help, but even before the current era it isn’t like Gionni Paul…[Read more]

Ainge and Zanik have done the equivalent of blowing off their foot with a shotgun because there was an annual 14% chance it would grow back by 2030.

UteNamedOg replied to the topic My spring prediction in the forum Football 2 months ago
The BIG12 is a snowglobe of unpredictability after last year. My two silver linings are: if you’re going to pick positions to return besides QB, the entire offensive line and the defensive captain are a pretty good place to start, and the offense will have some consistency throughout the spring to fall in practice. Imagine this:
Cam is good…[Read more]

Take this with an enormous grain of salt, as I have zero insider knowledge, but Lud’s system seemed to either work exceptionally well (averages of 35+ ppg in the two healthy Rising years) or not at all. Zach Wilson saying Utahs offense was resembling that of an NFL offense might have hinted at the playbooks being the size of a small car. Not great…[Read more]

A healthy Cam was the most fun I think I’ve ever had as a Utah fan. It’s sappy to bring a lot of emotions to a post about a guy who you’ve never met and doesn’t know you exist, but DAMN did he absolutely leave it all on the field.

Agreed. It’s much more likely you find a nice TDS fan if you’re the one being nice first.

Soapbox moment: Despite CR PTSD being widespread, I have nothing but admiration for the guy. Transfers in, sits an entire year in the booth, wins the starting job, injured and has to win the job again (after losing it), loses two friends in TY and AL, then back-to-back conference titles, Teddy Bridgewaters his knee and sits a year despite everyone…[Read more]

Pure speculation, but I got the feeling that Jensen is being very deliberate about who he recruits. This might be slowing things down. Hopefully this means long term sustained rosters where we see the a lot of the same faces for three or four years.

Does anyone know where you’d be able to find concrete data on NIL spending? There seems to be a distinct difference in payouts, with BYU opting to pay large sums for individual players, and Utah going for more of a moneyball approach. Ryan Smith rightfully gets sh*t for nosediving the Jazz until ~2035, but we may be singing a different tune on the…[Read more]

Stinks, but the flip side of the NIL coin is being able to reach out to other teams players. If we want him, donate and cross your fingers.

UteNamedOg replied to the topic Who is Byrd Ficklin? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
If I had to guess, it’s probably both. Whitt’s offense seems to play to the players strengths, but not at the cost of risking turnovers or negative plays. I remember going from almost never having a fullback in 2021 to Logan Kendall committing padded homicide in 2022. I’d be interested in seeing how the offense changed from just one year to the…[Read more]

Exact same archetype as Kuithe. I love it. Earning praise from Whitt as a freshman isn’t easily done.
