The start of college football’s early signing period is just days away, and as it approaches, the recruiting trail is heating up with a flurry of movement.
With a second straight Pac-12 title under its belt, Utah was a big mover, jumping up the rankings and into the top 20 overall. Helping the Utes rise were two key in-state commitments in OT Spencer Fano and DE Hunter Clegg. Initially committed to Stanford, Clegg was a big flip for the Utes, as he is a defender with good initial quickness who can bend and move well and has the tools to be a highly productive multiyear starter.
19. Utah Utes
ESPN 300 commits: 5 | Previous ranking: 31
Pac-12 rank: 3 of 12
Top offensive commit: OT Spencer Fano (No. 248)
Top defensive commit: DE Hunter Clegg (No. 155)The Utes continue to build off their on-field success to gain some nice wins on the recruiting trail. Two dynamic offensive pickups out of California are Carlos Wilson and Dijon Stanley. Stanley is a speedster and can be a versatile threat at RB, while Wilson, who projects to WR, can be productive, as he is quick with good ball skills. They went into Arizona to beat several Pac-12 foes for ESPN 300 OL Caleb Lomu, who has an excellent frame to develop and good flexibility. At home, they fended off national attention to land OT Fano. Another big in-state pickup is DE Clegg, who was headed to Stanford but flipped to the Utes and gives them an explosive defender with good flexibility and agility. The Utes have had success in Florida with signings such as Tyler Huntley and Zack Moss. They returned there to land ESPN 300 RB Michael Mitchell, who brings a nice blend of size, speed and strength.

Logan Fano – Transfer EDGE/LB. 4 star from 2021 class. Season ending injury in 2022 spring
Levani Damuni – Transfer LB. Starter past three seasons for Stanford. Led team in tackles past two seasons. Easily looked like their best player when they came to RES.

— Potential additions —
Smith Snowden – 4 star CB (High 3 on some services). Some smoke that he’s committing to Utah soon. But with his dad being close to the new byuP DC I have my doubts.
Walker Lyons – 4 star TE. Recently decommitted from Stanford. Good relationship with our coaches and some recent commits. USC is pushing hard for him.
CJ Blocker – 4 star CB. Recently decommitted from us, but we’re still in his top 5 and some say we still have a decent chance.
Daejon Reynolds – 6’2 210 Florida WR in the portal. 4 star from class of 2021. RS in 2021. Only 11 catches in 2022 but averaged 22 yards per catch. Smoke around him coming to Utah.
Avery Helm – Florida CB in the portal. Started all of 2021. Appeared in 10 games in 2022. Good size and length (like we have with Vaughn)Topic: “The incident”
I talked with a former BYU player who mentioned that not only was Spencer Fano not recruited well by BYU, there were actually some really bad incidents, one of which he told me about. So Spencer Fano is attending one of the home games and has recruiting tickets to the game. But Funk, the OL coach, wants to give Spencer his “Funk” family seats that are front row. Anyway, Funk doesn’t tell his wife that he gave some of their family tickets away and so when she shows up to the game Spencer is sitting in their family seats and she gets irate and throws him out. When Spencer tries to explain it, she says, “I don’t care who you say you are!” Lol. I’m not saying Spencer would have gone there, but damn BYU, get your sh++ together.
