The good thing is some Big 12 fans from other schools are starting to see it too. At least on X. Some have even said we were right and have apologized to us as a fan base. It was only a matter of time and it took them less than a year to show their true colors.
Agreed. This is the kind of game you just can’t lose if you want people to take you seriously, both as a team (Utah) and a conference (Big12). We only have so many chances to play/beat teams from the ‘Power 2’ (ugh) conferences.
“Johnson”, “packages”, “hands”, “ball”
“ball in Johnson’s hands”
Hard to read all this with a straight face. Seems I am not the only immature person around here 🙂.
After our past two seasons and our ugly transition into the Big XII pretty much all Big XII creator social media accounts are unwatchable from a Utah perspective. Locked on Big XII is constantly glazing BYU. John Kurtz is super friendly towards BYU, Pete Mundo with Heartland college sports is probably one of the more fair/objective recently but has had some bad moments. Cody Stovall with Locked on Oklahoma State hates Utah, the Baylor locked on kid hates Utah. Even if they don’t like BYU they talk about them in a more positive light because they dislike us, and that sucks.
National media is the only way you can watch unbiased stuff on Utah right now, and they aren’t talking about us very much because we have been a hot pile the past two years.
BYU has been having a big moment for the past year or so and the fact that it has coincided with a dip from us is frustrating as hell. On the bright side, I think we have a pretty good chance of winning 8+ games this year (w/ the rivalry game being one of those wins), and I think they will struggle to make a bowl game. I know it is too much to hope for considering the talent on their roster, but if their MBB can seriously underperform and get knocked out in the 2nd round of March Madness the tune they will be singing will be very different a year from now.
I consider this an “Experiment” that BYU donors are going through at the moment. Their high rollers are having fun paying huge money to get players. But if they have a couple of years of serious struggles/underperformance, considering what they are paying, I can’t help but expect a lot of those donations will dry up very fast once the novelty of it wears off.
As the season is quickly approaching I’ve been consuming a lot of YouTube content about the big xii and my goodness is a certain fanbase annoying/self righteous. First of all I can appreciate literally any other big xii fanbase saying ours sucks with what happened last offseason. But context matters and any other set of fans given the same exact situation would’ve acted the same way, so say what you will people. One group of fans though in the comment sections stands above the rest and that’s the byu-Provo people. Good grief, they get absolutely butt hurt if anyone says anything remotely negative about the team at all. Whether it’s the actual team, the stadium, the atmosphere, mascot, band, students, campus etc. Like good grief, not everyone is going to like you lol. Don’t get me wrong there is a good amount of “good people” over in Provo but my experience of just wearing Ute stuff just in Utah county…you would’ve thought I was public enemy number one. And I can also appreciate that as we are rivals and that’s how rivals generally treat each other in this country. Like enemies. But man, they’re just objectively annoying in these comments on YouTube and instagram too. Someone will give a top 25 with no byu-p or Utah I might add and boy oh boy, there will be at least 4 comments calling out the post/video about how dumb they are or “where’s byu broooo?” Etc. I could give more examples/reasons for my claim but in this echo chamber of byu-p critics, you all I think get the point. This post was more of me just venting about them more than anything else. They suck and I think maybe some people are starting to be annoyed with them too. Idk, maybe. Just drives me nuts being in the same league as them again for this one reason only, their awful, annoying, self righteous, dumb ass fan base. (Although it’s nice having an actual mutual hated rival in a conference again)The kids bop of college football that is byu-p.
Thank you for attending my gripe session
Re-read what I put. I said I don’t understand how someone can look at the last 25 years and claim Utah is of better stature than BYU. That’s not the same as saying in the last 25 years, BYU is better.
But again, it’s kind weird that you guys keep getting stuck on BYU. BYU is only part of the equation. I’ve also mentioned Colorado and SDSU (as well as USU). In the end, Utah has played in two NCAA Tournaments going back to the 2010 season. People should not be upset over their placement in this list.
Will 2nd string OL guys only see the field if there are injuries or garbage time, or will they rotate in while the starters are healthy?
A Google search told me that, unlike a D-Line where freshness is the top priority, O-Lines thrive on coordination. That is, it’s better to have the same five O-Linemen in for a whole drive than to sub in a fresh guy who might interfere with the rhythm.
How will that look for Utah this season? When will we first see somebody other than Lomu, Togai, Kump, Mokofisi, and Fano?
Are these programs lesser stature? Colorado, BYU, Gonzaga and SDSU have all done significantly more over the last 15 years than Utah has – at least on a consistent basis. In the last 15 years, Utah has two NCAA Tournament appearances. Colorado has six. BYU has eight appearances. SDSU has 12 (including a title game appearance). Hell, USU has seven NCAA appearances. If anything, Utah is the lesser-statured program of all those (+Gonzaga) I mentioned sans USU. So, despite being largely ass these past 15 years, the laurels of things they did nearly 30 years ago has kept them from getting pushed down to the MWC with schools like Boise State.
Honestly, if Gonzaga and BYU aren’t making the Pac-12 cut, why should Utah?
It feels like since this was heavy on region, the only other realistic option was the Pac-12 or MWC and both would still keep them at Power-ish.
My expectations are lower because Utah is coming off a 5-7 season where they won all of two Big 12 games. The O/U on Utah is about 7.5 wins, right? I think that’s likely where they’ll fall – either 7 or 8 wins. So, Utah going 8-5 and grabbing a win down in Provo would be a successful season in my book because it met the overall expectations.
Nine wins should not be the expectation and gauge on whether Utah was successful or not.
Honestly, I think some fans are underestimating the potential that Utah only sees marginal improvement over last year, especially factoring in how difficult their schedule likely will be compared to last year’s team. It’s just kinda crazy to me how confident so many of you guys are despite the fact Utah is coming off a losing season and have struggled quite a lot the last two seasons at times.
… For starters you have to have a proven offense
