This isnt everybody, but I know this applies to some
People love to feel apart of something bigger than themselves. Something that they can enjoy with other people sharing that same passion. Its made even stronger when its connected to your hometown/state, which many people naturally have a strong pride and connection with.
Its an escape from the droll day to day routine and all of the stresses of daily life. For 3 hours on saturday, all of your problems evaporate. Its nice to have that break from everything that weighs on you.
For fans of a team like Utah, in particular, I think that bond is stronger, because of all of the things this team has going against them. Being that small cold weather school in Utah. Utah isnt a sexy school. Utah isnt the school all the high level talent is dying to go to. You cant wear shorts to class year round. And did I mention we are in UTAH??? There is still an incredible amount of stigma tied to the state And we are in a conference chalked full of teams that are just what I listed. We work for every damn yard we get. Every win we get. We do more with less than any team in the country, and im proud as hell of that. For me, and many others, that ties into passion associated with being a Ute
While I respect your opinion, Moose, I disagree.
I think the fact that they’re being offered to Utah fans first is enough of a concession.
One could always just go to StubHub and rape people for them… Utah and opposing fans alike.
At least this way he’s trying to make sure his seat is taken by a Utah fan.
EDIT:
This was in response to Moose’s strongly stated opinion that people shouldn’t get as much for tickets as they can, or as much as the market would bear.
I do not and never will agree with that line of thinking.
There is risk associated with buying the season tickets in the first place. There is no guarantee of being able to sell tickets when needed at a price where money can be recouped. And if people (including Utah fans) are willing to pay that much for them, who is anyone to stand in the way?
Things come up. Sometimes emergencies happen and you can’t attend a game. Why lose out on the money when there’s someone to pay the asking price, simply because those that don’t have think it’s unfair that you get to recoup costs or (gasp!) even make a little bit of profit on it?
That’s just silly. Outright silly. It’s that kind of “social pressure” that exists on that other board that makes it such a drag to be active on. If you don’t subscribe to the groupthink, you’re shot down at every opportunity. And that’s just wrong. But I digress.
We live in a capitalistic society. If you have supply, and there’s demand, sell it at the price you can.
And if you choose to only sell it to a Utah fan, then that’s enough sacrifice on principle for me, because that may mean you don’t get top dollar.
If you disagree with that… by extension, if don’t like free markets, move to China.
Good hell.

Good effort. I should have left at the “edits” but I kept thinking what a same Mitch Harper’s reputation is being dragged down by being associated with such horrible fan fiction grammar.
Associated Press poll: I wrote 350 words about Utah in last week’s Poll Attacks under a headline that literally read, “Let me explain why you can’t leave Utah off of a Top 25 ballot.”
Like, that was the actual headline.
And the 350 words underneath that headline were me making the case for Utah.
In other words, last Monday, it made no sense for 13 Associated Press voters to submit ballots without Utah on their ballots, and I explained why in great detail. Since then, all the Utes have done is beat Arizona State 81-46 and top Arizona 70-64. So now Utah is 23-7 overall, 12-5 in the Pac-12 and in possession of a resume featuring seven top-50 RPI wins and just one loss outside of the top 50.
That’s strong stuff.

I think initially it was as surprise, but he seems pretty content now. doesn’t he have some associate head coach title? I agree I was shocked when Kyle brought in DC over Erickson and I think it set us back. It’s tough because Erickson’s offense had us in games, but we also lost 7 games that year mostly because of losing the TO battle on TWs INTs.

On my drive to work, I went past Disneyland. Mixed in the tourists walking to the park, I saw a young lady with a red Drum & Feathers Utah T-Shirt. So they’re filtering in already.
We’ll be at the USC Associates Talegater, guests of a USC alum. I will try to get a selfy with the Song Girls 🙂

Coddy Kessler is a darn good QB. Like all good QBs, his performance deteriorates under pressure. His OL is not that good. If Utah can put some pressure on the QB and generate some turnovers, they’ll be fine. Also, USC’s DL is not that great. Look for Booker to have another good game.
Speaking of which, I will be at the game. We access our seats through Tunnel 21. We’ll be attending the USC Associates lunch beforehand, serenaded by the band and song leaders while wearing Utah gear in enemy territory, NICE! I have some Utah D&F hats for my hosts. One of his sons asked why I rooted for a loser 4 years ago. I will give him a little reminder speech, hand them the hats and tell them Utah’s a winner and welcomes bandwagon fans.
What to watch for
California (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) is off to its best start since 2007, with a potent passing attack and a defense that has improved greatly from a year ago. The Golden Bears give up 23.4 points and 386.8 yards per game, far better than the respective 39.8 and 511.8 yielded in 2014, with 10 interceptions compared to 12 in all of 2014.
This has taken pressure off Jared Goff to score on every possession, and as a result his accuracy is way up. The junior quarterback is completing 70.2 percent of his passes with 15 TDs and four picks in 178 attempts, averaging 326 yards per game.
Utah (4-0, 1-0) had last week off, but before that it posted its most notable win since joining the conference in 2011 with a 62-20 blowout at Oregon. The victory helped the Utes earn first-place votes in the Associated Press poll, and Bleacher Report’s Bryan Fischer noted that they “have started to appear in the national conversation for a semifinal berth thanks to their 4-0 start that began by topping Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan squad in the much-publicized opener.”
Devontae Booker is Utah’s offensive workhorse, with 106 rushing attempts (with four TDs), 15 receptions and a TD pass thrown at Oregon. But the key to handling Cal will be getting pressure on Goff, something that will be easier to accomplish with the return of defensive end Hunter Dimick from a knee injury.
Washington State sacked Goff seven times last week, yet he still threw for 390 yards and four TDs. Utah will give him even less time to throw, and the Utah secondary will likely add to its seven interceptions this season.
Prediction: Utah 33, California 27

Full discolsure, I’m not LDS nor do I live in Utah currently, but I think it is kind of lame. I think the Mo Tab is great & its world famous, but I just don’t think it belongs on college gameday.
I agree, it should be left for BYU since they are more closely associated.
Growing up in the Midwest, we called people who couldn’t distinguish their religion from all the associated baggage “Utah Mormons” – because they all either came directly from Utah or Idaho. The funny thing was they tended to call themselves LDS which along with all the other abbreviations and weird phraseology they used, made us think that Utah was the Mormon equivalent of a military base. So where I grew up, using the term “LDS” was what meant you were weird. So if you ever leave Utah, prepare to embrace the term Mormon, because you might as well get MORONI vanity plates if you’re going to self identify as “LDS”.
