I don’t have any real proof, but, it kind of seems like the latest and greatest trend is to recruit tall safeties and convert them to fast linebackers, and recruit tall linebackers and convert them to defensive ends — so wouldn’t surprise me, although 6’4″ and 220-225 would make an ideal OLB as well.
That type of thing is what made us great before we went to the Pac12, and that is the type of thing that will keep us competitive in the NIL era. Sign guys with athletic ability and room to grow in physique and talent, then coach them up. It’s more risky because they could leave for a bag of cash at a moment’s notice, but it is still a winning strategy IMO.
